Rexy needs good showing on Shatterday

Rexy will be starting for the Bears in their second preseason game against the Seahawks in Seattle. The good news is that he has had success against the 'Hawks in the past and that he will be playing away so he won't have to deal with the "boos" and "jeers" from his home town crowd. The bad news is that he is Rexy. Which Rexy will show up? All he needs to do is show some consistency and if he can make a play or two, he might provide a bit of separation between himself and Orton.

The difficult thing about the whole situation is that regardless of who is picked as the starter, if they falter early and lose a game or two early, you can bet the Chicago media and crowd will be all over the Lovie clamoring for him to make a change. The starter is going to get very little leeway from the fans. Right or wrong, the starter will have to perform and have very thick skin.

Rex has been through it before. I agree that he has to perform this week.

I will say this, I don't think Lovie is going to have a quick hook for whoever is named the starter. I think he will stick with his choice through thick and thin for at least 8-10 games.

Personally, I think Rex has more potential and has been a better player to date, but I have confidence in whoever the coaches think should be the starting QB.

The situation in Chicago is the same as about 20 other starting QBs if their teams falter - including the Redskins. As we discussed yesterday, if the Redskins start 1-4 or even 2-3, JC is likely to hear boo birds and there will be plenty of fans who will fondly remember Collins' run last year and want change. It is the nature of the NFL.

Agree that Lovie should stick with whoever he selects. The problem with Rexy (and this is what is different than the "20" other starting QBs) is that every time he fumbles, throws and INT, does something stupid, the crowd is going to jump all over him. His situation is unique that way.

I agree that there are several teams that if they start poorly may face boos as the coach will as well. Personally, I think JC will do well this year. I think he is improved physically and mentally. The one big hurdle he will face is learning the new offense but that seems to be coming along pretty well. If they lose but his play is solid, there may be some calls from the crowd to make the change. I won't agree with those. If, however, he struggles in the first several weeks and we are losing, I will probably even think about making a change. That will depend on what our record is and the play of JC.

Again, the issue with Rexy is that he has been SO inconsistent in his play and when he does make a mistake, it is a terrible mistake and his mistakes all come together in one game making him look terrible. He will have a VERY difficult time winning the crowd over. He is an easy target now and the butt of many jokes out there. Seems to me he would be better served moving on to another team. We'll see what happens to him. Again, he better hope for a strong performance in Seattle. If he plays poorly, he will hear it/read it back in Chi-town.

For the Bears' sake, I hope Rexy does well. They're picking the lesser of two evils with whichever QB they go with, but as Robs' says, Rexy's got more potential.

I don't expect much though. Rexy is going to be behind a make-shift o-line and working with a rookie running back, and Brandon Lloyd...'Nuff said.

Anything better than 6-10 will be a miracle.

My sentiments exactly. This will be the third year that we will be clamoring for consistency from Rexy (RobsObs continues to defend him) and that's all we want to see. Rexy was named the most fragile QB in the league by his peers and has had former players come down on him. You can't tell me that with all of that combined with the razzing he takes on a daily basis from his own fans and the media and his inconsistent play it doesn't affect the dude.

RobsObs can continue to make excuses and defend the guy and he can say that despite a rookie RB, makeshift O line that was horrible last year, brand new WR corps with no clear cut #1, and no QB selected yet, that the Bears will compete for the Super Bowl.

I say "phooey." We both have our opinions and we'll see how it plays out.

You think JC will be good and I assume you believe he will get the love of the Redskin fans. I think we will see calls for Todd Collins when the Redskins falter with their tough schedule.

As for Rex/Kyle, I don't have a concern. I am not worried about their running backs - they are improved. I am not worried about their receivers - there has been no dropoff in the talent level. My only concern remains with their O-line.

I have already relayed my thoughts on JC and Todd in my first post on this subject. Read again if you need to.

You claimed that the O line was the issue last year and no one else was to blame on offense. Since they have essentially the same guys as last year, what makes you think they/the offense will be any better?

Whatever. You think that offense if better than last year. I say they are rebuilding and will struggle.

We'll see, friend...
