Bears hur-TING!

So the Bears #1 pick has missed almost the entire training camp with muscle issues in his back. Seems like Lovie is getting a little annoyed at the youngster as the more time he misses, the less likely he will be able to pick up the offense. Also, hurting is LG Metcalf who is going to get arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and most likely will be out a few weeks. They have few options to replace these guys and given that their O line struggled last year, this could be devastating given that they have a rookie starting RB, brand new receiving corps, and are still undetermined at QB.

On that note, Orton will get the nod to start in their first preseason game.

Interesting note, the Tribune had a poll on who should be the starter and leading the vote with nearly 30% was "Who cares, they both stink"

Good luck Bears fans!

I was a little puzzled by what I heard on Mike and Mike this morning. Lovie was asked in an interview what the process was for deciding which QB to go with. His response..."There is no rhyme or reason" to how they are choosing between Orton and Rexy. Obviously, there is no plan.

Another interesting comment. Tom Waddle, ex-3rd down converting receiving specialist for the Bears, said he does not think Jerry Angelo is very good at identifying talent when it comes to the QB position.

I know these are fleeting comments that were made without much thought, but interesting regardless. I'm not sure what has Robs thinking da Bears can compete for a spot in the Super Bowl.

I think it was the wacky tobaccy talking.

For about the umpteenth time, QB was not a problem for the Bears last year. The line and all the drops were really much more of a problem.

The Bears passed for more yards than the Redskins last year. Look it up. The problem was they were sacked about twice as many times.

I have some concerns about the offensive line but I expect it to be much improved.

In addition, the D fell to the bottom of the NFL and they are back and healthy. They have added a number of good players up front and are ready to go.

As bad as their D was and as bad as their line/rushing game was, they still went 7-9. I expect them to be much better.

I don't fear the Pack, the Lions, or the Vikings, so the division should be up for grabs. We'll win it and challenge for a spot.

The only thing I pointed out about their QB situation was that they weren't settled on a QB and the poll the Tribune ran. Take it easy, tiger.

Not sure how you can expect the line to improve so dramatically given that they are only older and their top draft pick is sitting out of camp with muscle spasms. Their other young O linemen is going under the knife on his knee and expected to be out for a few weeks. Their entire left side of the line is a question mark.

We'll see if their D can improve. I don't think they are a top D anymore.

I don't think the Pack, Lions, Vikings fear the Bears either.

We can go back and forth. Bottom line, we need to wait until the season starts and see how well they do. You think they will compete for the Super Bowl. I say they will need to fight hard to stay out of the cellar of their division. We'll see who is right.

Had a couple more notes on the Bears QB situation. You said that they passed for more than the Skins. That is true but it was only by 80 yards total. They also had almost 45 more attempts. The Bears completion percentage was 4th worst in the league at 57.5. They had 21 INTs vs. the Skins 11. Also, they were down a lot last year and they had no running game so they were forced to pass. That better explains the number of sacks and INTs. Their running game was 2nd worst in the league with 83.1 yards/game vs. the Skins 116.9 yards/game (ranked 5th).

You're the numbers guy. Given that the Bears had a number of more INTs, Sacks, attempts, the 80 yards more passing than the Skins is insignificant. The Bears have a QB issue in that they have not decided on a starter. Grossman took the field in an at home scrimmage open to the public and typcial of Grossman sucked it up. He came under heavy boos from the crowd. I know he has had some good practices but that is his issue...inconsistency. If the Bears were smart, they had opportunities in the draft to take Brohm or Henne. Neither Orton nor Grossman has shown that they are able to be the long term answer at QB. Maybe that will change this year but it has already been several years with those two and they still don't know who their QB is going to be.

Offensive line - not QB was the problem. That is what caused the numbers to be what they were.

If you disagree that is fine, but it all starts up front and the Bears just didn't have it last year on the O-line or the D-line.
