Mike Wise

I don't like him. He looks, sounds, writes like a guy that has never played sports in his life but wants desperately to be on the in. He is best at stirring the pot and I think he does this as he generates strong feelings one way or another by what he says/writes.

He has an article in the Post today saying the the Skins should not go after RG3 as that is exactly what we did pre Shanallen. To me, it is very different. Previously, we overspent on older FAs that did not fit the system. We are in dire need of a franchise QB and, in my mind, we have to make a play on RG3. Now if the price is too high, I don't want to do it as we could use the picks for other needs. But if the price is right, DO IT!

Wise writes that Fisher and the Rams think more of Bradford (who has been up and down so far in his short career) than going after RG3 and that Fisher has strong personnel skills. It's nonsense. Bradford still has great potential but a team like the Rams are in a great situation as there are multiple teams willing to bid for the second pick to get RG3. Why not see what you can get and pick up a large number of high draft picks if you are the Rams? It is WAY too early to give up on Bradford and the Rams are in dire need of many positions. It is smart for them to pass on perhaps a more versatile QB in order to fill many needs quickly.

As far as the Skins, with the new CBA, we can sign RG3 for the cheap so there is little financial issues. That is one of the big upsides of RG3 vs. a Flynn or Manning.

Jason Reid and Sally Jenkins (who I both enjoy/respect more) believe the Skins need to go after RG3 and I am with them.

I like Wise - I think he is a pretty thoughtful guy, plus he had an interesting story in the WP Magazine a couple of years ago in which he explains how he nearly died saving his dog from drowining one winter night along the Potomac. It was a great story.

But as for the specific issue of RG3. I think the Deadskins have to make a serious effort to get him. He will bring hope and he is clearly a good player.

That said, I would not go above the two #1's, a #3, and a #4 to move up to take him. If I had to go to a second #3 instead of a #4, I might consider it, but anything more than that would be crazy given how many needs the Deadskins have.

Wise has his own show on the radio and often appears on CSN shows. He seems to be out there much more for entertainment value as opposed to real analysis. I get that he is just providing commentary but it just doesn't seem that good. He doesn't seem to be that bright on sports related matters. Again, he just sounds like a guy who never played sports growing up but always wished he could have been an athlete.
