Fat Albert is on board

The Washington Post is reporting that Haynesworth has assured the team he won't be a distraction when camp starts.

The newspaper, citing an unnamed team source, reported that Haynesworth is now optimistic about his situation in Washington and understands that he sometimes will have to play nose tackle in the Redskins' new defense.

Haynesworth has been informed by the team that nose tackle Maake Kemoeatu is healthy, which will allow Haynesworth to play defensive end when both are playing on Washington's defensive line, the Post reported.

The disgruntled defensive tackle met with coach Mike Shanahan on Wednesday, the day before the Redskins open training camp. Shanahan says Haynesworth looks in good shape and is ready to go.

It's a good sign if it is all true. A healthy and in shape Haynesworth can certainly be big contributor to the team.

HAIL SKINS!!!

So who's going to play the other DE position? I heard that Andre Carter will be playing the outside LB position. Hopefully, Jeremy Jarmon is in there an will be a beast this year. I really liked how he played last year. The great thing is that he's 22 and already has a lot of playing experience. JKSD, you were just picking your pud when you were 22!

Yes, I was "picking my pud" at 22. What a glorious time that was.

I imagine the other DE position will be filled by Daniels. I think Jarmon is too light for the other DE position right now. It will probably be Daniels or Karriker.

Apparently Fat Albert failed his physical / endurance test and will not be able to practice until he passes it.

That being said, there are a couple of points to take note of here before jumping to any conclusions:
1. Shanny was probably going to toy with Big Al and make him feel miserable for skipping out of team activities up to this point. I'm sure he pushed him until he puked, then said, "FAIL! Get your arse on the treadmill you fattass!"

2. Apparently, a bunch of the players have been quoted saying Albert is in much better shape now than he was last season.

If either one or both of the above are true, then we shouldn't worry too much. Fat Albert will just have to learn the new 3-4 plays and get back in gear. He's not going to be able to screw around like he did last season with Zorny, so things should improve. If they don't, I hope there will be a team out there in need of a DT that is willing to trade something substantial for the dude.

Conversation between Al Haynesworth and William Wallace from Braveheart:

Al: I can't take this shit anymore Will! Shanny is really coming down on me. What should I do?

WW: You have to keep trying and you may die. Leave, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your bed, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell Shanny that he may not let you practice, but he'll never take... YOUR FREEDOM!

From Spy Game, one of my favorite movies, Haslet and Shanny arguing over Haynesworth after he passed out dead on the field after running suicide drills:

Haslet: Don't tell me that. Don't fucking tell me that. You didn't look in his eyes. Don't tell me that!
Shanny: He was your asset, somebody you use for information.
Haslet: Ah, Jesus Christ, you just... You don't just trade these people like they're baseball cards! It's not a fucking game!
Shanny: Oh, yes it is. It's exactly what it is. And it's no kid's game either. This is a whole other game. And it's serious and it's dangerous. And it's not one you want to lose.
Haslet: Shanny, we killed this man. We used him and we killed him. Okay, than you got to help me understand this one. You got... Shanny, what are we doing here? And don't give me some bullshit about the greater good.
Shanny: That's exactly what it's about. Because what we do is unfortunately very, very necessary. And if you're not willing to sacrifice scum like Haynesworth for those that want nothing more than their freedom, then you better take a long hard look at your chosen profession my friend. Because it doesn't get any easier. You wanna walk? You wanna walk, walk.
