Bradford to the Skins?

So there is a lot of posturing that goes on before the draft. Bradford apparently had a great workout in front of many teams including the Rams who have the overall top pick. St. Louis needs a QB and signs are pointing that he will go there.

However, there have been some rumors that the Rams may pursue Donovan McNabb although the rumors have apparently been untrue and the Raiders seem the front runner to get McNabb should he be traded.

All that said, if Bradford somehow slipped to the number 4 pick, I wouldn't mind the Redskins taking him. I would still prefer to go O line but if we were thinking about a QB, the only one I would really consider is Bradford. The Lions and Bucs have the #2 and #3 picks and they already have young QBs so they would not take Bradford. It seems either he would go to the Rams or else fall to #4.

I don't think QB is a need area for the Skins and again, would want O line as that is a dire need but I could be content with hearing Bradford's name. Frankly, should Bradford fall to #4, I wouldn't mind seeing us trade down for more picks and let someone who is in love with Bradford get him.

The absolute worst case scenario is Bradford goes to the Rams and we hear Jimmy Clausen's name at #4 or even worse Tim Tebow.

I suppose we will all find out in a few weeks.

Bradford will be gone, but if he is there at #4 it makes sense to take him.

But they will end up with Clausen or Tebow and there will be a collective groan by the Deadskin faithful.

If Bradford is gone, I feel pretty confident we will go O line. I wouldn't be surprised to take Tebow in the second round if he is available.

I could be okay with that. I would prefer (assuming Bradford is gone at #1) that we go O line with the first two picks but as long as we don't go Clausen or Tebow with #4.

Either O line or trade down.

There has been a lot of talk about taking Clausen - Kiper says it will happen for the Bears.

However, Vinny Cerrato who is working with Clausen's trainer came out yesterday and said Clausen is a great leader.

That is probably the kiss of death and now the Deadskins will likely end up with an O-lineman (which is the right move).

I doubt they will take Tebow in the second round. If he is available in the third (which I really doubt) then they would take him, but I expect them to go with two linemen.

What are you talking about? Kiper has Clausen going to the Bears? What for? That is not a need for them.

Cerrato is working with Clausen's trainer? What is that all about?

Two O linemen with our first two picks would make me very happy.

I meant Deadskins at #4.

Cross your legs and get a grip of your ding dong - it was just a typo.

Scenarios I wouldn't mind:

1. Bradford at 4, best o-line available in 2nd round.

2. Okung at 4, Tebow in 2nd round.

3. Trade the 4th pick ...pick up a later 1st and 2nd rounder...Best o-line available in the 1st, take another o-lineman and Tebow in the 2nd.

Scenarios I'd hate:
1. Tebow in the 1st.

2. Clausen in any round.

3. Not taking an o-lineman in round one or two.

Pretty much agree with Deepie.

Be prepared to be disappointed, because it looks like there is a growing belief that Clausen is the pick.

deepie said...

Why? Because Cerrato was scouting him and he's a consultant to Danny Boy still?

I'm sure Clausen isn't a bad kid, but I doubt ShanAllen would settle for the 2nd best QB with the 4th pick. If they do, I'll be disappointed, but it won't change my mind about the direction the team is going in. What we have is a real organization now that has a purpose and plan. If Clausen fits into the plan, I'll wait to see how things pan out.

Kiper is predicting Clausen for the 'Skins.

Here is the basic thinking behind that belief.

Kiper says that taking a QB (Clausen) at #4 and then an O-lineman at #37 is far better in this draft than going O-lineman at #4 and then QB at #37.

Apparently the draft is pretty rich in O-linemen and there will be some good talent in the second round. But, beyond Bradford and Clausen, there are no "great" QBs.

Colt McCoy is an interesting choice because he had a great pro day, he has great leadership skills, and he has a good arm with touch. But, apparently his problem is that he does not throw the anticipatory mid-range throws that are critical in the NFL. That is, he does not throw before the receiver has turned or finished his break.

McCoy could be available at #37, but he has more work to do than Bradford and Clausen. The problem is that he probably won't be available - so if the 'Skins are going to go with a QB, they almost have to do it at #4. If QB is a need, then trading down won't make sense, because it is likely that whoever trades up will be doing it for a QB.

I would be disappointed with picking Clausen but similar to Deepie, I have faith in this regime and have applauded every move they have made since taking over.

It is clear that they have a plan and if Clausen fits into that plan, I will have no choice but to accept it.

Again, that doesn't mean I like it but if we go with him and he turns out to be very good, I am free to change my opinion of him.

We'll see what happens in a few weeks.

BTW - who do you expect the Bears to take with their first round pick?

Peppers. We got our pick out the way.

Haha...Way to build through the draft, Mr. "The 'Skins suck because they don't build through the draft."

Rob said...

The Deadskins suck because Danny Boy is a horrible owner who runs his team like a bad fantasy football team owner. It's not just the draft. It is wasting money on players that don't fit the system, f$$king the fans, whacking loyal coaches in unethical ways, etc.

I have no issue with the Bears not having a first round pick this year. They traded it as part of the Cutler deal. They made a good gamble in my opinion. In fact, as part of that deal, the Bears received a 5th round pick from Denver last year. How did they use it - getting Pro Bowl rookie receiver Johnny Knox.

If Cutler plays better this year, and Peppers delivers 12+ sacks, the Bears will make the playoffs and the moves will have made sense. If not, then the Bears will be starting over with a new front office and coaching staff. We'll see.

The Deadskins still don't have a proven talent evaluator. Shanny had a lot of hit and misses in Denver. He never really did much in the 10 years following Elway's retirement which is what ultimately cost him his job.

The new Deadskin regime is better than Snyderatto, but that isn't saying much and we'll see how things work out.
