Caps have had no issue this year scoring. We rank at the top of the league in many offensive categories and score nearly 4 goals a game but despite scoring 5 goals in the last two games, we have lost because of poor defense and goal keeping.
Yesterday, Varly returned and stunk up the joint. I don't care to hear about rust and stuff. The guy had 12 days of practice and a game withe Hershey but he sucked. The game winning goal was a shot that went right through his legs. Still, he wasn't the only one to blame. The defense was shoddy and the game winner came on a dumb Alex Ovechkin penalty as he hit a Senator stick that was on the ice trying to nudge it away from the Senator player that dropped it. It led to the power play and the game winning goal.
It's dumb stuff like that and shoddy defensive play and lackadaisical defense and goalie play that can hurt us. I'm not sure if this team just thinks that they can outscore everyone and not worry about the other end of the rink but hopefully these last two games serve as a bit of a wake up call. I like that Boudreau is a no nonsense kind of guy and will not allow this play to continue.
I also like that this team is still capable of turning it on at any point in a game and when they do, they are nearly unstoppable.
One more game before the Olympics so hopefully we can come out a winner.

They went on vacation a bit early.
The goal-tending has to be on par with their offense if they are going to win the Cup.
It's been less about the goal tending and more about the defense. The defense has been pretty terrible.
Hopefully the break does the team good.
That's why Mike Green isn't on the Canadian Olympic team. Too many scorers on D - they need tough defenders.
Bring back Scott Stevens.
Bring back Scott Stevens? In that case, why don't we bring back Kevin Hatcher? Or even better Rod Langway? Maybe Calle Johannsen too just for good measure.
