I missed a little of the 3rd period and didn't see how Tampa scored its second goal. I was a little surprised to see the Caps up by only one because we just looked like the far superior team. Regardless, this streak is an awesome indicator of what this team can do. Things get a lot more challenging in the playoffs, but we've beaten some very good teams during these 10 games, so I think it's safe to say we belong in the discussion of cup contenders.
Awesome. I need to go to see a game this season just to experience the atmosphere when rooting for a winner. Going to Redskins games lately has made me forget what that feels like.
It will all come down to netminding. In the playoffs, games get tighter and goals are harder to come by. So you need solid goalie play. I'm not totally comfortable with the Caps situation in that department.
That said, even with the guys they have I would say that they will end up the favorites to come out of the East. It will likely be Chicago or San Jose from the West. Of the Caps and the other two teams, I like the goalies for Chicago and San Jose better, but you have to like the Caps offensive balance.
The biggest difference between this year and last year's Caps is there is a level of confidence, hunger, and belief in this team.
Goaltending will be huge in the playoffs and while Theo and Neuvi have been good during the streak, I too am worried about them. Interestingly, Robs points out the solid goalie play in Chicago. It's Huet and the guy we let go in favor of Theo. I was always disappointed letting him go because he was unbelievable in our run to the playoffs two years ago and came up with some tremendous saves. Whatever, we are what we are and it will have to do.
The good thing is that we have the best offense in the league and the defense has been better than last year so hopefully all that will be enough should the goaltending suffer.
The thing is the playoffs are a whole different story and anything can happen there. Many of the top seeds were ousted early last year so there is no telling what will happen. I do like this team and I do believe they will go deep into the playoffs because of the reasons mentioned above.
BTW - it is a great atmosphere at the game. Family friendly, easy to get to, great product, great crowd, and the organization has done a good job of getting the crowd involved.
Finally, saw Ovie, Varly, and Laich this weekend. Ovie is not any better looking up close. Kind of a big guy overall. Not so much muscular but as if he was given HGH or something. I don't really care as long as he keeps scoring.
