Randle El still the primary punt returner

WHY?!!!!!!!!!

This year, Randle El has returned 11 punts for a 5.2-yard average, among the worst in the league. He also has 11 fair catches, second-most in the league.

He catches it, hops in place 3 or 4 times and then hits the deck before anyone touches him. That is not what a punt returner does. For goodness sake, just run upfield and get a few yards.

I don't even understand what the strategy is anymore. Apparently ARE is the punt returner but Moss and D. Hall will each get an opportunity or two per game. What is this? PR by committee? Just put a guy like Devin Thomas in there or Tryon or someone who is young and fast and looking to get on the field for the playing time.

Zorn has explained what the reasoning behind keeping ARE back there is. According to Zorn, ARE is the most surehanded option they have. He puts Moss and Hall back there for a spark but there is too much risk with having your #1 WR and #1 CB back there.

If there's too much risk, then do what you just said. Use Tryon or Thomas. In reality, over the course of a season, a couple fumbles won't hurt as bad if we could get 10 more yards per punt return. B Mitch fumbled 8 times during the 91 season...but Gibbsy kept him in there because he was productive.

At this point, what do we have to lose? Give a young guy a chance to make a play. ARE is one of the worst PRs in football and he fumbled as well. What is he doing for us back there?
