Is Jay Cutler the reincarnation of Jeff George?

There are a lot of comparisons between Jay Cutler and Jeff George. Both were highly touted coming out of college. Both have big arms. Both have an abundance of confidence. Despite those characteristics, both have pedestrian winning percentages.

Also of interest both were traded early on in their careers because of their gripes with their respective front offices. They were both traded for two first rounders a piece.

They both think that their there is no window too tiny to squeeze the ball through, no defensive back quick enough to break on one of his spirals in time to pick it off (e.g., 49ers safety Mark Roman, a 10-year veteran, noticed about Cutler's decision-making before Cutler's last INT, "I couldn't believe he was going to throw the ball because I was in prime position to make the play," Roman said).

Jake Plummer said of Jay Cutler, "He's a great quarterback, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying anything to disrespect him. I think he's a helluva player. But Jeff George was a helluva player."

Both players have had attitude issues and overconfidence issues. Cutler seems to gripe to officials in nearly every game. He was just fined $20K for his comments to an official. Coming off of that fine, he again argued with officials in the 49er game for a non pass interference call. In breaking down an entire game film with Marty Schottenheimer in a 37-3 drubbing when they were both with the Redskins, George came out of it saying that there was nothing more he could have done in the game. He also said that leadership was overrated.

It's interesting to see the similarities these two players share in both characteristics as well as their career at this point. Hopefully for Bear fans Cutler's career doesn't continue down the same path George's did.

I'm going to respond to both of your posts in this response.

I think it is far too early to pass judgement on Cutler. His win/loss record in Denver was a direct result of their horrible D and all of the injuries with their running backs. Cutler carried Denver and without him they would have been a 4-12/5-11 team instead of 8-8.

The problem that I see with Cutler is that he doesn't have a dominant offensive coach to get on him. I doubt he respects Pep and I have my doubts about his relationship with Ron Turner. Turner is constantly making excuses for him and the running game instead of getting in their faces.

All of that said, Cutler looked great earlier in the year when he wasn't forcing the ball (after the first half of the Green Bay game. The Bears are 4-5 and are in the thick of things. If he can settle down and just play more under control people will again be talking about how great he is. If the Bears beat Philly this week and then somehow beat Minnesota next week everything will change.

Easier said than done, but certainly Cutler and the Bears could do it.

If the Bears win and Cutler performs, he will get his supporters and everything will be fine. Again, winning cures everything.

The Skins have been a joke this year but one win over the Broncos and much is cured.

However, should Cutler and Bears struggle again at home in a prime time meaningful game, they will pile it on. Get ready Bear fan, the shat avalanche is a coming!

We'll see what happens - it is crazy how bunched up teams are right now.

One point I'll make about the Deadskins. We'll see if their victory over the Broncos was more an indicator about the Deadskins or the Broncos. It seems like the Broncos have lost all of their mojo and if they lose the division lead to the Bolts this week that will make 4 losses in a row.

If the Broncos do lose and the Deadskins get blown away by the Cowgirls then not much really changed for the Deadskins.

The Bears are spiraling out of control. I'm sure Cutler is sitting at home listening and reading all of this stuff about him and is ready to open his window and yell as loud as he can, "F U ALL!!!!!"

He will probably throw a couple of first half INTs Sunday night, the crowd will boo loudly. Cutler will complain to the refs and then walk off the field at halftime giving the one finger salute to the fans. Cutler loves his arm and thinks he is better than he is a la Jeff George.

Regarding the Skins, I wouldn't mind being blown out at all. Sure, it was fun to see a win but, as I have mentioned a number of times, the only way we will see needed and meaningful change, is by having a disasterous season. A win here and there will only mean more of the same.

I think you are going a bit overboard. Obviously you have been drinking malt liquor since early this morning.
