Horton benched for Doughty

So the Skins have decided to bench 2nd year man Chris Horton in favor of Reed Doughty. I like both of these guys and apparently Doughty has played well when he is out there so I am fine with this move. Horton was the one that got the big pass interference call last week that led to the Lions final TD. However, apparently it wasn't just that one play that led to the benching. Again, I'm fine with the move.

Also, Greg Blache took blame for the poor defensive play last week. He should. It was coaching that lost that game. Yes, players play but the coaches have to put the players in a position to make the plays. Our defense last week was so vanilla. There was no disguising. There was no blitzing. There was nothing. It was high school defense at its best.

Apparently, he will change the defensive philosophy a bit. Blache said, "I've got to be just a little bit more of a maverick, Not necessarily a McCain-Palin maverick, but a Bret or Bart kind of maverick, and be a little bit more of a riverboat gambler."

Thank goodness he is talking about the Bret or Bart maverick vs. McCain-Palin maverick. We'll see how this translates on the field this weekend.

HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!!!

Whatever. Shifting the chairs on the Titanic didn't save the ship from sinking.

The O-line stinks and will keep the losses coming. The Redskins will continue to lose - just not this week.

I keep saying that the O line hasn't been that bad thus far. It's not great but not bad. It's been pretty average.

I could just keep saying the the Cutler's secondary sucks and will let them down. That's fine.

I am convinced that the biggest factor in our lack of production has been the coaching. That needs to step up and become more dynamic, creative, aggressive, and thoughtful. If that happens, we can be a much better team.

You say coaching, I say talent.

You think Shanny/Holmgren/Cowher/Chucky/JKSD/whoever could win.

I don't.

More than likely the Malcolm Kellies will have a new coach next year. That coach will also have a weak record as long as Danny Boy is the GM (and he is effectively the GM).

Here is the piece I was talking about earlier - read it.

How many no shows will there be at FedEx this week? I say about 15,000.

I think JKS'Dad forgets that the offensive line not only pass blocks, but run blocks also. This is supposed to be a running team, isn't it? Having your star running back, someone who you think will be a HOF inductee, only get a paltry 60 yards a game and not score in the redzone. I say they are difinetly below average. Bugel needs to retire. Don't let his hair coloring fool you, he's 69 years old!

There have been a few VERY questionable decisions by Zorn that are obvious to even the common fan. It also seems like we are overly conservative and committed to something even when it is consistently not working. When that happens, you have to change and adapt and we have not. So, right now, I do think more experienced coaches like Shanny/Holmgren/Cowher could make a difference. I have maintained that coaching seems to be our biggest pitfall right now.

I'm not even sure Scott is a fan of the Skins. Why don't you just root for Dirty Sanchez and the Jets or something. I have not had the position that our O line is the second coming of the Hogs. Still, the group has held up pretty well. I can accept that they need to do a better job of run blocking. However, I also think the coaches should not be SO predictable with the run plays. It's a given that we are running on first and often second downs. It's a given on short yardage situations we are going to the left. Everyone knows this. Since we all know this, we can gameplan against this. That is another reason why there needs to be a shift in coaching. Throw a bomb on first down. Run play action. Run up the gut. Do a delayed draw play. DO ANYTHING that is different and throws the defense off. So, yes, the run blocking needs to improve but so too does the play calling.

Hilarious. Go ahead and run the the right. Rinehart and Heyer are backups for most teams and will get blown up.

Go ahead and run the draw. I will bet that if they run the draw 6 times this week, they will lose yardage on at least 2 of those plays - and that is against the horrid Bucs D.

The only place to run is to the left. At least you have 3 NFL caliber players at LT, LG, and center and there is a chance for positive yards.

You're hilarious. You are SO in love with your Cutlers that you will turn a blind eye to them but criticize the Skins for the same thing.

I keep telling you that the O line isn't terrible. You just want to continue on about how bad they are. The Bears have given up just as many sacks and then you will talk about run blocking. Look, Forte is only averaging 2.5 yds per carry vs. Portis who has 3.9. C. Williams leads the league in false starts. You do a whole lot more research and reading than I do but I don't recall seeing a lot about the Skins poor line play recently. Again, I'm not saying it's the best line out there but they haven't been as poor as you think. I know that that group was a big question mark going into the season but they have not been that bad so far. That might change but to date they haven't been bad.

As far as running to the right, we were successful when we did that last week. I think we only did it twice but we had some success. We used to run the delay draw last year and had success. In fact, against Philly in a critical 4th down play that was the call and we got decent yards. I don't know why we abandoned that play this year. All I'm saying with the running game is quit just trying to run left because defenses can stack up that side and it won't matter if you have 3 All Pros on that side, we won't get positive yards.

You can poke fun and make your claims but to me it sounds like you are just talking out of your ass.

You need to read more. Jason Reid's post this week laid out how bad the line is.

The Redskins would trade lines w/the Bears in a heartbeat if they could.

As the season wears on I'm sure the facts will come out. We'll see.

Where is your post about UVA this week?

j, k, and s's d said...

You never reply when I post on UVA so why do you care?

Congrats on the win.

You just post to either bother me and/or because you hate UVA/Groh.

When they have a big win - on the road as a 2 TD underdog - you are silent. It just shows what I wrote above is true.

Whatever, it's your blog, you can obviously write whatever you want.
