Cooley out

Cooley suffers a broken foot in the game and will be out for an extended period of time. He's the third starter on offense (second Pro Bowler) to suffer a significant injury. Hurts but gives a chance for Fred Davis to show us what he has.

Davis had a good game yesterday receiving but his limitations in blocking only compound the issues we have in blocking. Davis was a WR coming to USC and became a TE but clearly his strength is catching the ball.

The thing I don't get about Davis is whenever he catches and turns upfield and is faced with a tackler, he always leaves his feet and tries to jump over the guy. What the heck is that all about?! Just lower the shoulder and give the guy a shot. Whatever. It will be good to see if Davis can show us something.

Tough break (literally and figuratively) but at least he can rest and not worry about missing out on a playoff run. It will be good to get Davis in the game, but he simply cannot block - I expect to see a lot more of Yoder with the line troubles they have.

Use Davis and Devin with Moss and ARE in the 3 and 4 wide sets - Davis can take the place of Malcolm Kelly who obviously stinks. Davis has hands and goes for the ball - MK doesn't.

The thing is it will force Davis to work on his deficiencies and get better if he can.

I was listening to Jerry Gray and Thomas during post game and they were both asked why Jackson is having an impact and why it is taking long for our guys to develop. Gray was saying that we just had good receivers in front of them on the depth chart and that the Eagles just didn't have WRs so they were forced to start Jackson early on. Thomas sounded frustrated saying that Jackson was given an opportunity and that he, Kelly, and Davis haven't had a chance and are constantly being pulled out of games. Jackson gets to play an entire game while our guys get a handful of snaps per game. I'm not sure how it is relaying as I write it but the tone wasn't so much an indictment of the coaches as a general feeling of frustration.

The good thing is with Cooley going down, Davis is forced to play and provide. Thomas had a decent game and definitely wants more. Again, he wants to punt/kick return and sounds like he is lobbying for that role. Just give it to him. He cannot be worse than ARE.

He can't. He is a player who doesn't study hard, who has overslept and been late for meetings, and who has been known to giggle inappropriately in team meetings.

Devin Thomas may be able to play - Malcolm Kelly can't but Vinny really loves MK's size so he has tried to push Zorn to play him.

As for Davis, he is not a hard enough worker - see above.
