So there is some talk of Cutler coming to the Skins. Apparently on the ticker yesterday on ESPN News they had the Skins were showing interest in Cutler. I don't like the news. I don't like Cutler. He is a whiner and a guy that is too fragile. Seriously, the whole thing with Denver is just nonsense. The guy got his feelings hurt and now he doesn't want to play with them any more.
As far as the news of him coming to the Skins, again, don't like his whining. Also, don't like how this news is probably affecting JC. First, they opt not to give JC an extension. I am okay with that. Sure, why not let him work with the same coach/system for the second year and see what he is capable of. As far as his age, he is in the prime of his career and now is when we should expect him to take his game to a new level. If he performs, he will probably be more expensive than if we signed him now. However, if he doesn't, than perhaps we will have to think about going in another direction. Frankly, it is going to be a crucial year for both Zorn and JC and they both better have success if they intend on keeping their jobs.
JC has at least publicly shown that he is okay with not being offered an extension. He says that as long as he plays the way he knows he is capable of playing, it will all take care of itself. He seems confident in his abilities and raising the level of his play and becoming the franchise QB. However, with the Cutler news, I'm sure it has to be upsetting. It's similar to how Cutler got upset with the news of Cassel coming in. The organization isn't showing much faith in JC. I don't really like that. I'd really like to see what JC is capable of this year and also I don't really want to see a prima donna like Cutler leading the team.
Cutler has interest from a number of teams, namely the Jets, Bucs, and Lions. Even the Bears are in the running and would probably be willing to give up their #18 pick and Orton for Cutler so we'll see where he eventually winds up. However, I am just not thrilled with the Cutler to D.C. news.

I like Campbell and I believe he will improve as an NFL QB. That being said, I think Cutler is a better QB simply due to his ability to get the ball downfield. It requires quick thinking and a fearless approach to the position that I think Campbell is a little short on.
As much as it has been reported that Cutler is a big baby, I think there's a chance that he might just be getting portrayed incorrectly by the media. He was essentially told he wasn't wanted and his coach has acted like a completely incompetent buffoon in trying to resolve the issue. If McDaniels wanted to squash the issue, all he had to do was get on a plane and meet with Cutler. He's done nothing of the sort except perpetuate the he said-he said nonsense through the media. If I were Cutler and I saw how things were going down, I'd probably ask for a trade too. He may have approached things in a less than ideal way, but I don't blame him for it. The latest news says Cutler never asked for a trade and that the apparent call from the owner that he didn't return for 10 days never happened. Something's not right and the blame should be placed largely on othe Broncos for dealing with this situation the way they have.
All that being said, giving up two 1st round draft picks for Cutler like the Broncos are asking for will be a mistake. If we can get him for Campbell and perhaps a 1st or 2nd rounder next year, then fine. We need that 13th pick to get an RT or DE.
I'm not really sure how you can put the sole blame on McDaniels (the Broncos). Sure, the Broncos could have handled things a little better but basically Cutler got his feelings hurt and now doesn't want to play ball.
Cutler was upset that they fired Shanahan and the O Coordinator. Cutler said that after the Shanahan firing Bowlen said that the O coordinator would not be fired so he was upset when McDaniels was brought in and the O Coordinator was fired. Bowlen does not recall ever talking to Cutler about the O coordinator.
There is nothing wrong with McDaniels wanting to bring in Cassel. He groomed him. Why not bring him in if he is available since he already knows the system and can only help in the transition process with the new coach. The NFL is a business and Cutler got his feelings hurt.
McDaniels did try to reach out to Cutler. He wanted to speak directly to Cutler. Cutler wanted his agent (Bus Cook) so McDaniels asked the GM join the telecon. Things did not go well because from what it sounds like, the Bronco organization didn't apologize to him. It sounds like McDaniels admitted that they made a push for Cassel and that he said that every player can be moved if it will help make the team better. Cutler seems to think that he above that and he should be untouchable.
McDaniels again met with Cutler on Saturday, 3/16 to try and patch things up. Again, things did not go well. I imagine it was a similar type of conversation as the telecon and on Sunday, 3/17 Cutler asked to be traded. Regarding their meeting, Cutler said, "At the end of the meeting, he wasn't like, 'Jay, I want you as our quarterback, you're our guy.' It felt like the opposite. He basically said that I needed to tell him if we can't work this out, to let him know," Cutler added. "I thought he was antagonizing me and that was disappointing because I was ready to move on, committed as a Bronco. Really, I figured we'd hash things out, shake hands, laugh a little and move forward. What happened [Saturday] was the last thing I expected. If I didn't think it could be fixed, I never would have come back to Denver. It was painfully obvious to me and Bus [Cook, his agent] it's not something they want to fix."
Cutler and his agent have been pretty vocal about their feelings of disrespect out in the media. I'm sure the Broncos could have done things differently but if you are Cutler be a man. First, don't be so sensitive if they inquired about Cassel. Second, understand that it is a business and that if you are moved, as upsetting as it is, deal with it. Third, after meetings, there is no need to kiss and tell in the media.
He's a young, fiery guy and he has a rocket of an arm but that does all sound a whole lot like Jeff George.
The issue here is that if we don't get Cutler, I can imagine JC would be ticked off. I expected JC to take his game to the next level this year given that he is in the prime of his career, he will be working with the same coaches/system for the second year in a row, he is more comfortable as a starting QB, and he is in a contract year. If we don't get Cutler and JC ends up the starter, I would imagine he would play the year with vengeance and if he played well, I wouldn't be surprised to see him sign elsewhere or else demand a huge payday. We'll see how it all plays out.
I hope we stick with JC and he plays with a vengeance as you say. Worst case scenario, we'll have to pay him the money that we'd be giving to Cutler if he comes here. That's not a bad thing.
If we get Cutler, I don't think he'll be a malcontent. I think he's getting screwed by McDaniels and the Bronco organization. He's young and he's coming off a Pro-Bowl season. The last thing he could have expected was that he was not going to be in the new coach's plans or that he was replaceable. As I said earlier, he could have handled things differently, but when he said he was ready to meet with McDanials and hash things out so he could remain committed to the Broncos, that says to me he had his head on right and the new coach came into that meeting with a different agenda.
Anyone in any job who is constantly being strung along by their boss and is led to believe that they are not a valuable asset to the company will try to find another job. It's that simple.
Jay Cutler = Jeff George II
The guy is a wuss and I see no issue with what the Broncos did. So what if they inquired about Cassell? They didn't trade Cutler.
There are multiple reports that the Redskins are trying to trade for Cutler and that they are looking very closely at Sanchez for the draft. It is clear they are not happy with JC. If Cutler were here in Washington he would be crying like a baby and demanding a trade.
Cutler didn't want to meet with McDaniels unless his agent was present (much to McDaniels chagrine) and by all accounts, he let Cook do the talking.
After his meeting with McDaniels on 3/16, it was Cutler who cried to the media that he didn't get his apology.
Cutler was not being strung along. In fact, quite the opposite. Again, I don't think that there is anything wrong with a new coach wanting to bring in "his guys." It happens all the time. It only makes sense when trying to build something. After they weren't able to get Cassel, McDaniels was reaching out to the already upset Cutler to try and set the record straight. From my understanding, McDaniels was forthright in telling Cutler that they inquired about Cassel. After that, he didn't kiss Cutler ass. Rather he told him that it is a business and that everyone on the team is looked at and if it makes sense to trade someone to make the team better, it can happen. McDaniels has said that he wants to move forward with Cutler and has said as recently as a week ago, "We're looking forward to getting him back. We're committed to him," McDaniels said. "I'll continue to do what we can do to try to affect our relationship positively from this point forward."
Stringing him along would be to deny that they ever inquired about Cassel and then telling Cutler that they are committed to him all while shopping him around behind his back.
I haven't heard the Dirty Sanchez rumors but that would be an even bigger mistake. Let JC play this year and lets make a decision on the QB situation after this year.
We have other much more pressing needs that need to be addressed.
cutler goes to the bears! For orton and two first round picks! How do you like dem apples robs?
Championship!
He's my guy now. I have to love him!
