Madden retires

Kind of hard to believe. You kind of assume that Madden will be there forever. Still, it was time. He's 73 years old and I'm sure the demands of broadcasting have gotten too much for him.

Will be curious who will get the spot opposite Michaels. While it won't be the same, it will be fine. Frankly, we don't watch football because of Madden. We watch football because it's football.

Wow. I just saw your post and it is the first I have heard about it.

Time marches on.

Cris Collinsworth got the gig.

My all-time favorite Madden-ism...Super Bowl XXVI...Mark Rypien drops back to pass and gets hammered by two Bills defenders. Madden says, "Smith and Bennett were the bread, and Rypien was the bologna."

Or...I forget which game it was, but...Upon seeing a player's helmet fly off and roll down the field after a vicious hit, Madden says, "Good thing his head isn't in there."

Madden has gotten rich off of his video game. He is probably sick and tired of Al Michaels pomposity.

I'd like to see Al out. I like Collinsworth.

The best tandem for me is Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. Aikman gives the best analysis of anyone out there.

One of the worst is Brent Musburger. Every other play the guy just yells, "fum-BLLLLEEEEEEE!!!!!" and there was no fumble.

Worst Maddenism, the coach's clicker. That thing was useless but Madden loved using it. Thankfully they got rid of that years ago.
