Redskins DOMINATE!!!

Redskins totally dominate the Lions. Great victory in many ways. Obviously, because it takes us to 3-1 but to dominate the Lions is a great way to come out of the bye week especially after the tough loss to the Giants. Also, we have not won game where we have blown out the opponent in some time. It's good to see improvement each week and you can feel the confidence and momentum building. If they can continue, there is a lot of potential for this team.

Nice to see a domination in all phases of the game -- offense, defense, special teams, AND coaching. Obviously, JC had a HUGE game. Keep in mind this is only his 11th start but he is looking very poised back in the pocket. The line has continued their solid play not allowing a sack and giving good opportunities to the backs. Sellars is getting more touches and deservedly so. He is proving to be another offensive weapon that is very versatile. Defensively, great game plan against one of the better offenses in the league. Williams basically played a lot of coverage schemes relying on the speed of the LBs and secondary to contain the passing game forcing them to run or do shorter passes and the D line provided good penetration getting 5 sacks including a safety. Nice to see Rogers actually hold on to the ball for the INT for a TD. It's just good to see all of these pieces coming together. It's also good to hear the players hungry for more and not just being satisfied with a single victory.

Encourage RobsObs to view the video. It is a little bit longer but hopefully it gives him some idea of how much the 'Skins dominated and that the defense is decent and that our O line is solid. Also, that JC is a talent and becoming a solid QB.

We have a big game against GB next week and no doubt GB will be bitter at the game they let go to the Bears. The Packers loss to the Bears was much like the 'Skins loss to the Giants. The Bears didn't win the game, the Packers lost it. No question they will be hungry and not want to lose 2 games in a row - especially at home. It could be a good statement game for the 'Skins. We'll see what happens.

Great win, and JC was awesome. But my view on the team remains the same. The game was much closer than the final score indicates and the Lions have been a bad road team this year. Martz pulled the plug on the running game and really hurt his team.

I'm happy the Redskins won because it really helped the Bears. I'd also love it if the Redskins won this week at Green Bay, but I don't think they will.

They are a below average team and that is what is going to play out as the season wears on.

"The game was much closer than the final score indicates?" If you say so, RobsObs. Then again, you have been pretty much wrong all year when it comes to football so whatever.

Seriously, I am not going to pretend the 'Skins are part of the elite in the NFL. I am happy with their play this year. I said they would go 9-7 this year and that would be a huge improvement from last year and a successful season. JC is improving with each week and he is proving that he is a player. The defense has been outstanding. They are now ranked #3 in the league vs. the Bears #23. That is an unbelievable turnaround. Sure, it's still early. However, we are now a quarter of the way through the season and I am very pleased with the play/improvements with the 'Skins.

Why don't you post the new Bear/Redskin numbers on your website so we can see the trends.

FYI - the 'Skins are now ranked #8 in ESPN's power rankings. That can all change in a week but for today, I am very happy.

RobsObs....seriously...closer than the score indicates? Even if it ended 14-3, the 'Skins completely took the Lions out of their game. Martz pulled the plug on the running game? Wrong. Actually he started calling running plays more often in the 2nd half because they couldn't move the ball by passing. The team is built for a passing game and not much else. If you read some of the articles on the game, you'll see quotes from defensive players saying they didn't care if the Lions ran the ball because it meant they were dictating the tempo of the game.

It was an example of as close to total domination as you can have in the NFL. I am seriously questioning your NFL intelligence with that comment.

Now...by no means does this make the 'Skins an elite team. They may be a wild-card contender, but with a make shift o-line and a green QB, anyone would be foolish to say the 'Skins are going all the way just because they beat an overachieving gimmick team. Regardless, you can't take away the confidence and momentum that a win like this creates. We'll go into Lambeau and put up a better fight than I would have expected two weeks ago.

Yeah, the score was not really indicative of the game. With a minute to go in the 3rd quarter it was a 14-3 game and certainly not out of reach for the Lions. The Redskins got the safety and then had a big 4th quarter.

I am not going to change my mind about the Redskins and the Bears after just 4-5 games. I am comfortable in my opinion that the Bears are a much better team and that the Redskins are mediocre. It is a long season.

Now that I think of it, you're right. The score wasn't indicative of the game. 14-3 midway through the 3rd quarter was a lot closer than the game really was. The Lions couldn't do anything and the 'Skins were controlling all facets of the game. If anything, the 'Skins should have been winning by more.

I'm not saying the game was closer than the final score indicates as RobsObs wants to argue. I'm saying the game was more of a blowout than the score indicated.

Tell that to the Bills and Cowboys. When a game is close, all kinds of things can happen. The Giants completely turned it around on the 'Skins in the second half. The Lions had a record-setting 4th quarter against the Bears. These things happen.

If the Redskins lose this week in Green Bay, they will be mediocre, like most of the rest of the NFC. In the end, I believe they will end up 7-9 for all of the reasons I have stated in the past.

If I am wrong, then fine. Last year, the blowout win against the Texans didn't translate into anything. In 2005, the big win against the 49ers was followed by 4 losses in the next 5 games. We'll see if this win means anything.

We'll see what happens. However, there is a different feeling on this team. This team just seems to be playing with a quiet confidence and a chip on their shoulder. They also seem to be in sync with the coaching staff. In a nutshell, a lot of the issues from last year seem to have been worked out.

Again, we have a ways to go but I am happy with the play and progress this team has made.

I'll believe it when I see it. The Redskins have been mediocre for the better part of a decade. They have had games that looked like breakout games, only to revert back to mediocrity.

I don't KNOW if the Redskins are any better or not. But, I BELIEVE they are the same old Redskins that we have witnessed for the last 10 years.

In a quarter of the year, we have SEEN that their defense is ranked #3. We have SEEN their QB improve with each passing week. We have SEEN their offense improve despite the number of injuries we have suffered on offense (Jansen, Thomas, and Moss).

It seems like you could get a feel after a quarter of the season whether they have won by luck or if the team does have some talent and plays well. Again, I am not saying that they are unstoppable or anything but they appear to have a solid team that has come together and play competitively.

I understand too that we can talk all that we want but the only proof is on game day.

Oh jeez. That's about as ignorant of a statement as I've ever heard. What does last year, let alone the last decade, have anything to do with what's going to happen this Sunday? With that thinking, you must think the Chargers and Saints are still contenders for the Super Bowl. You disappoint me yet again RobsObs.

Last year the Bears were in the Super Bowl. This year they've already lost badly three times. Last year the 'Skins couldn't play defense. This year they're 3rd in the league. Previous success/failure means nothing in the NFL unless a majority of factors remain stable. The Bears lost coaches and players and as a result they're struggling. The 'Skins stayed quiet and added some talent and they're succeeding.

It's still early and anything can happen, but com'on man. This is why you're picks this year have been so far off the standard I, Deepie the Greek, am setting.

Chargers are definitely in the hunt. Saints aren't.

I'm comfortable with the Bears chances right now. Griese will have some games under his belt and there is likely to be a real focus on trying to get the running game going over the next few weeks. If they go 2-1 over the next three (Minnesota and Detroit at home and Philly on the road) they will be at 4-4 and hopefully they will be healthy on D coming out of the bye (week 9 for them). That should allow them to make their run in the second half.

You think 4 games proves anything? I guess when you have been mediocre for a decade it is time to grasp at any sign of improvement - no matter how small. I'm not saying 3-1 is a bad thing, but I simply am not convinced after just 4 games. They go to Green Bay, New England, and the N.Y. Jets and have a home date against Arizona. I could easily see them going 1-3 over the next 4. After the strong start that would be a disappointment. With 2 games against Dallas, road games against Tampa and the Giants, and the Bears game, you are looking at some tough games in the second half.

Enjoy your 3-1 and good luck against Green Bay - I hope the 'Skins win.

Let's see, the Redskins beat 0-5 Miami. They beat 1-3 Philly. And, they beat 3-2 Detroit at home. They lost to the 3-2 Giants at home.

But you want me to completely change my view about the Redskins based on their current 3-1 record against teams with a combined record of 7-12. You may be willing to twist in the wind wherever it blows, but I have a little more commitment to my beliefs than that.

Over the next 4, the Redskins play teams with a combined record of 13-7. Let's see what happens.

FYI, the Bears are 2-3 against teams with a combined 16-7 record. More than half of their starting defense and their left tackle have missed significant portions of most of the games, but many of those injuries are healing. Their next three are against teams with a combined 5-8 record. Even with their tough start, I expect the Bears to be at least 4-4 going into the bye, and they have a fairly reasonable second half schedule.

I predicted a 3-1 start for the 'Skins and a 9-7 finish before the season began, knowing that the schedule would only get tougher. I'm not changing my prediction, however, I'm much more comfortable with my prediction than I was at the beginning of the season given the obvious improvements on defense and the improved QB play. My point to you, RobsObs, is simply that your prediction of another 5-11 season was way off base due to all of the reasons that JKD and I explained to you all along, but you chose to ignore.

Rob said...

My prediction for the 'Skins was 7-9. Look it up on my post on 8/31. We'll see how it plays out.

deepie said...

Sorry. I seem to have mistaken the fact that you've said "I BELIEVE they are the same old Redskins that we have witnessed for the last 10 years" and the fact that you've picked them to lose each week so far (and probably will pick against them this week) to mean something less than 7-9.

Just be consistent. Given your picks thus far, you are implying that they will go 7-5 the rest of the way.

Rob said...

I am not really sure what you are saying. My prediction for the year is 7-9 - I stated it at the beginning of the year and am comfortable with that prediction.

I don't think about 7-9 when I make my picks each week. I just make my picks. I still BELIEVE that the Redskins are mediocre - that hasn't changed one bit. In the end, I think that mediocrity will show up - just as it has for the better part of a decade.
