Redskins Alumni Day

Bruce Allen organized something that should have been done a long time ago...ALUMNI DAY!!! Actually, judging from the highlights and turnout that I saw, it seemed like it was VERY well received by the alumni and they really enjoyed it. It's something the fans and the alumni had wanted for some time as we should be reaching back to those players that were part of the glory years and seek their support and goodwill.

Interesting because with a true GM in place, a proven coach running the show, solid assistants supporting the coach, judicious selections in FA, drafting for need, reaching back to the alumni...could Danny Boy finally be running a legitimate NFL franchise?

Chris Carter of ESPN stated this morning that he felt that the Redskins had the worst off season of any NFC team because they should have traded Haynesworth! What a f-ing idiot. Kolber and Mike tried to steer the conversation away from his stupid conclusion by stating that they have addressed needs. Ofcourse, he thought the Vikashes had the best off season. F-him!

WHAT?!!! They probably did make an effort to trade him or were at least open to the possibility but I don't say give the guy away. If nothing of value comes up, you can't just give him away for nothing.

I think we have had a very good offseason. We have addressed our O line which has been our need for the last few years. We added a solid LB in the draft which is needed in the 3-4 defense. We brought in some guys on the D line that are more accustomed to the 3-4 defense. We brought in a former first round pick to compete with Rogers at CB. We shored up the RB position. We have a ton of WRs that will be competing for the limited number of spots. We haven't even talked about getting rid of Cerrato and bringing in a legit GM and qualified head coach and the strong team of assistants.

Carter is an ass!

He's just mad that he didn't get in the HOF. He was pushing to get Monk in...presumably to clear the way for him to get in when his turn came up.

Alumni Day seems to have been a hit with the alums. I'm not sure how much the current players got out of it though. I hope CP had a chance to talk to B-Mitch to get some perspective on the history of this team. Too bad Riggo wasn't there to give CP a piece of his mind too. Then again, CP might not even make the team when it's all said and done...so who cares about CP.

Snyder needed to do this a long time ago. I hope he's realizing how screwed up things were in the past and I hope he learns to enjoy what he's experiencing now.

I was listening to Sam Huff talking about alumni days or ex players coming by when he played and he was saying that for the players they don't really know the guys personally and what their accomplishments were but it was good from an organization standpoint to bring back some of the guys so that they were still connected to the team.

The Redskins alumni are the guys from the glory years and we have had players/teams with a rich history so it would only seem to make sense to keep connected with them and make them feel part of the team. It was a long and overdue move for the Redskins but it seemed to have gone over really well with everyone and hopefully some of the ex players were able to impart just a bit of wisdom on to the current team. If nothing else, to get the ex players goodwill still means something.

Great for the Alumni Day and all of that, but here is the problem: Those great Redskins played in an era without free agency. They knew what it was like to treat the franchise like a family because people only left if they were rarely traded, injured or retired. In recent years, the Skins have changed so many of their players, there is no way that the current players will be able to understand the franchise that the Redskins once had under JKC. This is a good step though. F-CP.

Scott, you're right in that they won't understand the kind of franchise that was here before. However, they do know that there is tradition and there is a rich history and there was once great success and pride with this team. If just a small amount of that rubs off on the current players, it is a good thing.

Again, ex players have spoken poorly of Danny boy and the current organization but reaching out to them is a step in the right direction to bridge that gap.

Oh yeah, and F CP (unless of course he is in shape and plays well in which case, I love him).

To answer the question at the end of the post - NO!

The guy doesn't know how to run an NFL franchise. Any good will that emerges over the next few weeks/months, will be destroyed by some lame brain move soon enough.

Frankly, within a year we will probably see Vinny back in town for Snyderatto III in glorious HD/3-D!

Apparently Allen is trying to organize a home coming game. Yet another way to get the guys that created the Redskin tradition back. We have a rich history full of tradition and that has been somewhat lost over the last decade. I like that Allen is trying bring some of that back.

Great - I cannot wait to see Vinny at the homecoming game. Danny Boy will take him as his date.

The only question is whether Danny Boy will get a wrist corsage or pin one to Vinny's dress.
