Shanny said that the Redskins will tender JC an offer before the start of free agency on March 5. Although, he didn't go so far as to say that JC will be the starter.
GREAT NEWS!!! I would love to see JC play with a real coach and a solid O line in front of him. Regarding the Skins taking a QB with their pick, it could just be Shanny not wanting to show his cards to other teams.
Whatever. We'll see who we take with the pick but for now, I am glad that the Skins will make an effort to try and keep Campbell.

Russia HAMMERED!!!
Wasn't even close. The game was a pretty big let down and did not live up to the billing at all.
Russia looked completely outmatched. A couple of things really stood out.
1. Nabakov sucked and clearly didn't have it letting in 4 goals in the first period. Then another two early in the second period. Now not all of the goals were his fault but he clearly was off his game and needed to do better.
2. Coach should have pulled Nabakov in the first and at the latest in b/t the first and second periods. Even if he didn't think Nabakov was at fault, Russia needed a jolt and that is reason enough for a goalie change. The backup ended up performing really well only letting in one goal and making some very good saves. The thing was that when it was 3-0, Russia scored to make it 3-1 and silencing the crowd but Nabakov let in another goal to end the period at 4-1. That was tough. It was too late when they made the change.
3. Russian players just looked out of sync. It is a classic case of having great players but not necessarily a good team. The Russians didn't seem to understand where they were supposed to be and it really looked like a collection of individuals. I understand too that this is in large part because these guys don't play together but still every team is faced with the same problem and they just didn't even look close to being comfortable with one another. Particularly in the third period, it just looked liked these guys had never skated together before and each one of them spoke a different language so they couldn't communicate with one another.
It's over and it's another win for Sid the Kid over Ovie who was pretty much a non factor in the game. At least Ovie gets to come back to D.C. and get back physically and mentally with his Caps teammates and hopefully he will get the last laugh by bringing home a Stanley Cup.

Russia vs. Canada TONIGHT!!!!
UNBELIEVABLE matchup tonight with Russia facing Canada. This is what we all wanted to see. The game is at 7:30 pm and I cannot wait.
It's the two greatest teams in the Olympics. It's like an All Star game or the Pro Bowl game except for that these really care about the outcome and aren't in it just to have fun. They are playing for their countries. On top of it all, it's another opportunity for Ovie to face Crosby on the world stage. This is going to be awesome!

Ovie's hit on Jagr
Sorry for the poor quality. It's about the best I could find given that the Olympics do not want things posted. Unfortunately you miss the best part and that is Jagr's face on the bench. A look of thorough embarrassment and feelings of disrespect. CLASSIC!!!

LT released
He is no longer a Charger. He is on the downside of his career. He might have another year or two as a serviceable situational back but that's about it. He'll get picked up and will excite the fans with the signing and vow to be awesome but it'll be clear he isn't the guy he used to be.
Good luck, LT.

BONER IS MISSING!!!
The guy that played Boner on the 80s sitcome Growing Pains is missing.
The real question is what kind of name is Boner for an 80s ABC sitcom?
Apparently the guy has been despondent as of late and his friends and family have been worrying about him.
Hopefully he turns up.
Interesting side note...Boner is the son of Chekhov from the original Star Trek.

U-S-A!!!
Okay, so it's not the miracle on ice but still a pretty good upset last night with the U.S. hockey team beating the Goliath Canadian team.
The U.S. were never down in the game and handled them pretty well. Ryan Miller was stellar in goal. It was 4-2 late in the game when Crosby scored on a PP to cut the deficit to one. Great flurry by the Canadian team at the end of the game. Pretty intense until the U.S. was able to add in an empty netter.
In a side note, Russia defeated the Czech Republic. One of the greatest moments in all of hockey was when Ovie laid out Jaromir Jagr whose head was down and didn't even see the hit coming. Jagr was sent head over heels. It also led to a Russian goal. Jagr's face on the bench after that hit/goal was priceless. Thorough embarrassment. It was like, "Hey! You can't do that to me!!! I'm Jaromir Jagr!!!" The thing is Ovie doesn't care who you are. You better keep your head up when he is around. It was also like the old superstar getting schooled by the young superstar. LOVE IT!!!

Pizza Hut sucks, man!
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
I ordered from Pizza Hut about a month or two ago and it took freaking an hour and a half for delivery so what did I do? I ordered from them this past weekend and guess what? It took over an hour for delivery. I called Pizza Hut to find out where the delivery guy was and he just said that he'll be there any minute. He wasn't particularly helpful and wasn't real nice. The dude shows up at the door, didn't seem to care, and the pizza was cold.
So as the title of the post states, Pizza Hut sucks, man!
I understand it might just be the location that delivers to me but it still sucks!

Tiger's not a Tiger anymore...he's a CHEETAH!!!
The apology was what I thought it would be. It was staged and appeared disingenuine. Guy's an arse.
Guy kicked off plane because he stunk
Robs, what were you thinking when they asked you to leave? Was it embarrassing?
Tiger apology coming today
This is a choreographed, scripted, staged statement that has been written and practiced over and over by Team Tiger so it won't really amount to much.
Still, he is going to have to get back out there at some point if he wants to continue his career. The way he has orchestrated this it's like going in ankle deep to test the waters so if that's what makes him feel comfortable, so be it.
I do agree with Els though in that the timing is a little screwy. He is doing it in the middle of a golf tournament. Seems to me he could've waited until Monday or Tuesday to make his statement so as not to take away from the tournament.
Whatever, Tiger is the greatest golfer we have ever seen but in my book, Tiger the person is an ass.

Jamison to the Cavs
Mixed feelings on this one. Jamison was the consummate professional. He was an All Star player but he was equally important in his role as a leader. It's tough to see him leave but at the same time, it made no sense to keep him. He is a 33 year old guy that still has a couple of years of solid productivity in him and Le Boulez are in the midst of rebuilding. No sense in keeping him around for the Wizards sake and they did him right by trading him to their arch rival Cavs so he has a chance to win a championship.
Seemed like a pretty good trade as we got some young talent and the Cavs 1st round draft pick this coming year. Wish Jamison luck and hope he wins the championship. He deserves it.

Wizards
BLOW'EM UP!!! Tremendously disappointing season. The team was supposed to contend for the Eastern Conference. Instead, the season has turned into an embarrassing train wreck.
The trade of Caron, Haywood, and Deshawn is the start the rebuilding process. Josh Howard and Gooden will be rentals and the trade frees up a lot of money for the Wizards to entice the plentiful amount of FAs this offseason. I only feel bad for Jamison who seems to be the consummate professional and gives it his all night in and night out. He seems like a good guy and a good leader and it's too bad that he has to suffer through this mess. On the one hand, I would want to see him stay because I like him but on the other, it would be nice to see him go to a team that has a chance of winning. I suppose if you love someone, you have to set them free. I know that sounds corny and I hesitated to write it but I did SO SUE ME!!!
There is still the issue with Arenas and it will be interesting to see what we do about him and it will be interesting to see who we pick up in the offseason. No doubt there will be a number of quality players available and no doubt we will make a run at a couple and we should have a very different look to our team next year.

Ovie vs. Crosby
Great piece last night on the NHL Network. It was an hour long program about Ovie vs. Crosby and their history starting from childhood. It was a great piece and it showed their lives on and off the ice. What was most interesting was how much they truly are a commodity and the lengths companies will go to to market these guys. It was almost as if hockey was secondary and these guys are just busy doing promotions and stuff.
It was a really interesting show and it also documented how truly different these guys are. Crosby recognizes his stature and being a true ambassador of the NHL and hockey in general but still prefers to stay behind the scenes and focus more on hockey and less on interviews, promotions, etc. Whereas Ovie, who also understands his position in hockey, seems to relish more the celebrity status. Actually, their personalities come across in how they play. Still, great program. I'm sure there will be reruns this week and I would encourage catching it if you can.

Where's the D?!
Caps have had no issue this year scoring. We rank at the top of the league in many offensive categories and score nearly 4 goals a game but despite scoring 5 goals in the last two games, we have lost because of poor defense and goal keeping.
Yesterday, Varly returned and stunk up the joint. I don't care to hear about rust and stuff. The guy had 12 days of practice and a game withe Hershey but he sucked. The game winning goal was a shot that went right through his legs. Still, he wasn't the only one to blame. The defense was shoddy and the game winner came on a dumb Alex Ovechkin penalty as he hit a Senator stick that was on the ice trying to nudge it away from the Senator player that dropped it. It led to the power play and the game winning goal.
It's dumb stuff like that and shoddy defensive play and lackadaisical defense and goalie play that can hurt us. I'm not sure if this team just thinks that they can outscore everyone and not worry about the other end of the rink but hopefully these last two games serve as a bit of a wake up call. I like that Boudreau is a no nonsense kind of guy and will not allow this play to continue.
I also like that this team is still capable of turning it on at any point in a game and when they do, they are nearly unstoppable.
One more game before the Olympics so hopefully we can come out a winner.

Saints are World Champs!
Good Super Bowl. I, as probably most everyone outside of Indy, was rooting for the Saints. They really have become America's Team or the closest thing to it for what they have endured the last couple of years.
A couple points of interest in this game:
1. Saints looked jittery early on. Brees didn't look sharp, Colston was dropping balls, they just looked off but once they settled down, they really got into a rhythm. Colts just didn't seem able to stop them.
2. Saints seemed to have figured out the Colts defense and the Colts didn't do anything to counter. Colston seemed to be open every time he went 10 yards and curled. They were able to find the soft parts of that zone every time. Colts needed to either try shifting to man to man or at least disguise a blitz and throw it at Brees to create mistakes.
3. One of the most gutsy game calling from a coach in the Super Bowl. First, going for it on 4th down near the goal line at the end of the first half. I would've played it safe and kicked the FG. When they missed, that seemed like it was going to come back and haunt them in the 4th quarter. Good thing for them, they held the Colts on their ensuing drive and were able to get a FG right before the half pretty much nullifying that 4th down decision. Also, the onside kick to start the second half could possibly be the play of the game. It kept the momentum on the Saints side and then for them to come down and score a TD was huge.
4. Williams' defense did a pretty good job of disrupting Manning. Manning seemed to have it figured out in the first quarter but he was off on a number of his throws later in the game and I don't think that it was because of poor preparation or WRs not knowing where to go. Manning and the Colts WRs practice nonstop and they seem to know each other better than any QB/WRs in the game so have to give credit to Williams and that defense.
5. The pick six sealed the deal. Looked like the Colts were on their way down to send this thing into OT but that INT locked it up. INTs are the most stunning game changing plays in football because of their unexpectedness and that one just sealed it.
6. Super Bowl commercials weren't all that great. Enjoyed the Doritos one where the dude got slapped by the little kid for looking at his mom and trying to take one of his Doritos. All in all, none that really stood out.
Good game and congrats to the Saints.

Caps beat Pens...AGAIN!!!
It was the kind of game NBC dreamed of. High scoring, the game's biggest stars scoring, OT...fantastic.
The Caps started out really sluggish. Looked like last year's playoff series against the Penguins. We just looked outhustled and outplayed which is uncharacteristic of the way this team has been playing. To make things worse, Crosby scored the first two goals and the Penguins looked really energized.
The thing is unlike last year, I didn't feel too worried. I felt like we were the better team and we would turn things around. To start the second period, Ovie took a great head man pass and finished off a breakaway to make it 2-1. The Caps looked a little better but found themselves giving up two more goals making the score 4-1. The Caps had a number of great opportunities but either just missed or tried to make the extra pass/move and couldn't punch it in. I was saying that the Caps will need to get one score before the end of the period if they want to stay in this thing. Eric Fehr had a great individual effort taking it down the left side and shooting a wrister that Fleury stopped but Fehr was able to punch in the rebound making it 4-2. Unfortunately the Caps took two late penalties at the end of the second that gave Pittsburgh a lengthy 5-3. We killed off half of it to end the second period.
To start the third, we still had to kill off the rest of those penalties and I was thinking if the Pens score, it's game over. Fortunately, we killed off the rest of the penalties. It energized the crowd and the team. The thing about this Caps team is when they turn it on, they are amazing. It's like they just they just move into another gear and can do what they want out there. I suppose they Unleash the Fury (okay, that was kind of silly). Ovie ended up scoring two more goals in Ovie fashion and the stadium was rocking.
Game ended up in OT and with about 3 minutes left, the Penguins took a high sticking penalty so it was 4-3. Ovie took a one timer from the point and it looked like it went in but it rattled off the inside of the post but Knuble was right there to stuff it in. GAME OVER!!! GREAT WIN!!!!
Once again, Ovie showed why he is the greatest player in the world. The other thing is by Knuble getting that game winner, it shows exactly why McPhee had the smarts to bring this guy in. All last year, we were lacking that guy that would stand in front of the goalie and mix it up and do that grunt work. That is what Knuble does and that game winner was exactly why he was brought in here. He is one of the pieces we were sorely missing last year but we are now a much more complete and dangerous team.
That's 14 in a row now. We have the third longest streak in history and only need three more wins to tie the longest streak held by none other than the Penguins.

Great Super Bowl ad
As the Super Bowl airs this Sunday, it is probably the only time I actually enjoy watching commercials.
This is probably my favorite from last year and still gives me some good laughs.
Caps go for 12 in a row tonight
They face the Rangers but honestly the way the Caps have been playing lately, I don't think it matters who they play, they will find a way to win. The team is on a franchise record win streak and continuing to play unbelievable hockey. It really feels like this team believes they can and should win every game they play. It's a real credit to Boudreau for fostering this mentality and McPhee for building this team.
As a side note, the Caps are 14-1 since Ovie took over as captain.

Agent Zero
So by now we all know the story and the guy is an idiot for bringing guns to the workplace. He just didn't get it and made light of the situation. Had that incident escalated in the locker room, there may very well have been a gunfight.
Still, if I was part of the Wizards and Gilbert came out and did this when he was introduced, I would have probably burst out laughing too. It's pretty funny.

Bears hire Martz as offensive coordinator
Let me see here...we take one part Mike Martz, add in 2 parts of Jay Cutler, sprinkle in leftover Ron Turner offensive coaches and just a pinch of Lovie trying to keep things smooth. I might as well strap my entire body with C4, drink a gallon of nitro glycerine, stick a wick up my arse and jump into a nuclear reactor...KABLOOEEYYYYYY!!!
Good luck, Bear fan.
Good luck, Bear fan.
