Jason Campbell to stay in D.C.?

Interesting listening to Shanny in his introduction speech yesterday. He seemed excited about his new role and promised that we would not be disappointed. When asked about JC, he responded saying that he was excited about working with JC, he loved his attitude, and that he wanted to talk to him and sit down and watch all of his film and that he believed that his best football was yet to come. It sincerely sounded like a guy that believed JC could be his QB.

When asked about CP, Shanny sounded much less supportive and basically said that it all depends how players work in the offseason. He has seen aging RBs fall off the table because they don't put the time in during the offseason.

When asked about the possibility of drafting a QB with the #4 pick overall, he didn't sound enthusiastic but didn't rule out that possibility.

I understand the guy just got here and he has a lot to do with meeting the current coaches and players and then assembling his staff and preparing for the draft and getting his playbooks down but he sounded like a guy ready and excited to jump in and get his hands dirty.

The coming weeks/months will be very interesting for Skins fans. We'll see what direction we go in but right now I feel pretty good about what is taking place.

What Shanny does with Campbell and Portis will say a lot about what he intends for this team going forward. JC may not be a world-beater, but he has proven to be effective and he has the respect of his teammates and much of the fan base. He has shown toughness and commitment to the team. It will be a matter of whether or not Shanny thinks JC can run his offense.

Portis on the other hand has proven to be a bit of a problem. He doesn't practice. He becomes defensive when the topic of practicing more comes up. He also represents the way things were in that he was the first to bypass the coaches and go straight to Danny to discuss things that he didn't agree with. I don't think Shanny will want a potential cancer in his locker room. Either Portis will have to change his ways or he's done as a Redskin.

I really like how things are shaking out so far. It is already feeling more like an organization that can be trusted...but I'll be a bit of a skeptic this off-season. We really need to see what happens before jumping on the Shannallen bandwagon.

True that there is a feeling of organization coming along with this franchise.

So far, so good but there is a lot of decisions to be made and based on those decisions it will be telling who has control and if we are moving in the right direction.

The tough part for CP is that he has shot himself in the foot and his antics are no longer going to fly not just with the new administration but I think even with the players. He seems to have alienated himself and by all accounts the players really liked that JC stepped up and showed some anger and fire towards CP.

I'm looking forward to seeing what happens over the coming weeks but the good thing right now is that new direction, new attitude, and new purpose are already starting to take shape.

During yesterday's piece with Mel Kiper, Czaben and Co. asked Kiper what he thinks the 'Skins will do with the 4th pick. Kiper seemed to believe Shanny will want a QB because coaches want "their guy." I really hope that doesn't happen...BUT...according to Kiper, the only O-lineman worthy of the 4th pick is Russell Okung. If he's gone, there apparently is no point in going with a tackle.

Having a high draft pick can be trouble sometimes. I'd like to hear Shanny say he's fine with JC and address what the team really needs.

Keep Campbell and trade the pick down and get more picks.

Shanny is a guy that likes to build the line. The other good thing is that with his zone blocking schemes it is more about your assignment and less about taking your guy one for one. You need smarter, athletic guys. In Denver, they only ran like 6 types of running plays with some small variations from week to week but they did those 6 plays very well. We need younger, stronger, smarter guys that don't necessarily need to be top 10 picks.

I am assuming that the best available QBs in the draft are either Bradford and Clausen. With our current O line and Bradford's propensity for injury, he will be on the IR by week 2. Clausen is a pretty boy that I just don't want to have.

I like JC and the guy has the respect of the team. He is not the problem on this team. There are by far other issues.

We'll see what happens.

Remember when Portis came, he complained that he was used to the zone blocking scheme and he had to run differently because the Skins had a more traditional approach. I think Shany handled the Portis question well. I think he's issuing a challenge to him to come to the OTA's and get in good shape. We get one extra OTA because of the new coach, which should be the start of the healing process.

I can't believe JKSD had not posted about Agent 0 (Gil Arenas). I think he is a prime example of why our society is so F-ed up. Why should these idiot sports stars be paid as much as they are? Arenas will be losing $150k per game he is suspended. Tiger is losing millions from his missing tournaments and sponsorship changes. Truth is, professional basketball sucks anyway. Tiger has also impacted the fans and television market with each tournament he misses. Each sport needs to self regulate and teach each player about appropriate conduct. I love that Arenas is losing so much money because he was stealing so much the past two years with his injuries.

JC is only coming back if he gets no other offers. You guys are dreaming if you think his is coming back to DC. Jason Reid says Shanny's not impressed with JC - I'm sure Danny Boy has made it clear he doesn't want JC back.

CP is out - even if he wasn't such an arse, Shanny didn't think he sucked, and his teammates didn't hate his guts - his salary does not justify his being on the team anymore. The other thing is that Shanny will want to send a message to the team right away that things are changing. CP enjoyed direct dial service to Snyderatto and went over Zorn's head constantly. Cutting him will send a message that things are changing.

Shanny seems non committal on JC but he continues to say that he wants to talk to him and watch film with him to get a better feel for him.

I think Shanny is less impressed with CP and him saying that he thinks it is a matter of off season working out for older players - particularly RBs is a direct jab at CP.

I wouldn't mind seeing CP leave at all. I think he is serviceable but he represents what was wrong with the Skins and removing him helps to change the culture.

We'll see what happens.
