Favre vs. Jackson

So there are reports that there are Vikings players wanting Tarvaris over Favre. Apparently these players wanted the Vikings to stop their pursuit of Favre and give the ball to Jackson. After last week's performance, I'm sure it did nothing to quell those sentiments.

Favre will get the ball the entire first half in the next preseason game and for his sake, he better perform better and hope Jackson struggles otherwise it will be a short honeymoon for him in Minnesota.

This whole story has the makings of the Viking season imploding right in Childress's face. Although for his sake it might be a good thing as it might actually improve his ugly looking mug.

In all honesty, I am happy the Vikings brought in Favre and his ego. The only thing I see it doing is making them worse.

Tavaris Jackson has been inconsistent, but he certainly has shown signs that he can be a very good NFL QB. Look at his numbers last year during the regular season. After coming back from injury (and that is a problem - he is injured a fair amount), Jackson went 3-1 as the starter, threw 8 TDs and 1 Int, and had a QB rating of 115.

His problem was that he had a bad game against the Eagles in the Wildcard round of the playoffs.

I'd take my chances with Jackson and I think the pickup of Rosenfels was a good one because of Jackson's history of injuries. Throwing Favre in just mucks everything up - which I like as a Bears fan.

I don't know too much of Jackson. I don't think too highly of him but I really don't know that much.

I don't like Favre because he is all about Favre at this point. He (and many people) are believing in the Brett Favre of old. He is not the same guy anymore. He will polarize the locker room and unless he has success early on, things in Minnesota could get very messy. Many people believe that the Vikings are a QB away from going deep in the playoffs so again, if they don't production from him early on, it will get dicey.

Jackson performs when he is on the field and he seemed to be developing nicely. I have heard that he is popular in the locker room and the story you are referencing is not surprising to me.

I hope Favre sucks it up this week and Tavaris had a decent showing. Then the Vikings will be even more twisted up.

I want Favre to be the starter because I think the game has passed him by. With Tavaris, he still has inconsistent moments, but I think he can make more plays than a washed up Favre.

I have no vested interest in the Vikings or the piss-poor NFC North. I guess for Rob's sake I hope Favre fails miserably, but I doubt he will. In my opinion, he will be better than Jackson or Rosenfels could be and, therefore, the Vikings will benefit.

I still think Favre brings entertainment value to the game. Egomaniacal narcissist or not, he's still one of the all-time greats and the Vikings did what they believed they needed to do to get to the next level.

Favre brings entertainment value to the game in the same way a freakshow brings entertainment value.

You cannot take your eyes off of him because he is so weird.

But that doesn't translate to wins on the field, it only helps you sell some jerseys and make a little more money.

Favre reminds me of The Natural when Hobbs comes back after his stay in the hospital for the big game. Max Mercy tells Hobbs that regardless of his performance, he will give him a hell of a story.

It's the same thing. Regardless of what Favre does, people will be interested. Some will want him to succeed. The majority will probably want him to fail but everyone will be watching.

BTW - have you guys seen the shirts they are selling in GB? The ones with Favre's picture on the front and say We Will Never Forget You, Brent!

He is a sure fire first ballot HOFmer but it's too bad because had he not played this year and last, he would have gone in some of the biggest fanfare ever. I'm sure the Packer fans would have come out in the boat loads and Wisconsin would have probably given him a holiday and there would have been festivities galore. All that is gone. He will get his supporters but it's not going to be nearly as great if he had just retired when he originally did.

He's entitled to do what he wants but he has definitely tarnished his image.

Good luck, Brent!
