Is Urlacher being TOO greedy?

From the Chicago Sun Times:

The original $57 million didn't seem to bother anyone. It was a little high for Brian Urlacher, but he had the potential to be a big star. And he got there, too. Urlacher wants more. ''I'm just happy that we were able to come to an agreement on both sides. And it's fair for both sides.'' That's what he said five years ago when he signed his current deal, which was for nine years and included a $13 million signing bonus. At the time, it was one of the richest contracts for a defensive player in NFL history. Now, it's not. But he negotiated away that salary inflation in favor of security. That was the choice he made. The Bears have been fair to him. And here's some more reality: Urlacher is about to turn 30 and has four years left on his contract. He's coming off neck surgery and has a chronic back problem. And he wasn't good most of last year.

My answer would be "Yes."

My answer is "Yes" also. But, let me put in a caveat. He is entitled to ask for more, but he shouldn't sit out in whiny protest.

If he plays and plays hard, then I don't really have a problem with what he did.

I would have preferred that he kept it quiet, and try to work behind the scenes, but he didn't and now just looks like other whiny athletes who don't feel like they have gotten appropriate "respect."

Frankly, I don't think the Bears should do anything. Take a hard line and make him play out his contract for at least another 2 years. Use the money on guys who actually have contracts that need to be extended or on free agents who can help the team now.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

One of the bad things is it tarnishes the image of Urlacher.

I guess he needs more money for child support. The guy needs to get healthy and just play football.

His money situation is just fine.
