Eastern Promises Review

What is this movie about? There doesn't seem to be a story line good enough to make a movie. I sat through it and when it was finished, I sat there by myself and said out loud, "What the F did I just watch?" I didn't know when or how it would end. It just seemed kind of silly.

One star.

I am surprised - 1 star? I thought it was at least a 2.5 star movie.

Interesting, different, and surprising plot twists made it worth more than 1 star in my opinion.

I'm not sure if you understood it, or if you just didn't like it.

Did you like History of Violence?

I liked History of Violence.

I just didn't see much of a point to this movie.

What twists? The fact that Viggo wasn't a mobster and he was a good guy?

The movie just seemed to be about a 14 year old who was tricked into becoming a prostitute and what to do with her baby after she died giving birth to her. Then it was Viggo straddling the fence b/t mobster and good guy. The movie seemed to take place in like 3 different sets: (1) the restaurant; (2) the hospital; and (3) Naomi Watts' home.

The ending was kind of a let down too.

I'm sure it was supposed to be kind of artsy and thought provoking at the end. I just didn't get it. Maybe I'm just too much of a simpleton.

It was the old dude's baby and his son was gay.

I liked the whole mob stuff and the fact that the old dude was going to serve up Viggo as his son.

Also, at the end, it is not clear to me that Viggo has given up his mob ties.

After all of the B.S. he must have had to go through to get to that point, why not be the boss?

Not a great movie, but I was entertained.

Come one JKD...you told me that you loved this movie for the mere fact that Viggo kicked everyone's butt while his dong was dangling around in that sauna.

Seriously though, I liked this movie. Good acting, different story, pretty interesting. But would I rather watch this or Rambo? That's really the question we must ask ourselves. The answer is RAMBO any day of the week over this wannabe violent film.

1 star? Don't say that. I just rented it...Haven't seen it yet.

JKD must have been having one of his HGH-induced Rambo-like flashback episodes

The dong dangling fight scene ALMOST saved this movie but even that couldn't provide me with the satisfaction that I was craving.

Is he an informant or is he a mobster? Sending a mob head of a major sect of organized crime for statutory rape doesn't seem like it would be enough to keep the dude in jail.

So what that the son was gay? Also, the entire movie the old dude is embarrassed by his bumbling son and values Viggo's service yet he still serves him up to the rival gang. What's up with that? I could understand if he showed more compassion towards his son but there was never any sign of any allegiance to his son.

Just too many flaws in the movie and an overall lack of story.

If Eastern Promises was promising a sucky movie it certainly lived up to its name.
