RG3's knee

The entire city is holding it's collective breath as we await more definitive answers on RG3's knee.  Reports are that he suffered a partially torn lateral collateral ligament in his right knee, a source told ESPN's Brett McMurphy. Griffin also likely tore at least part of his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), but it's unknown how severe it is because a previous knee injury he suffered at Baylor in 2009 required two screws and a rubber band to hold it together.

He has multiple tears and will be out all of next year - that is what I expect.

We'll see if he recovers his speed. AP was able to recover and I expect RGIII to work hard, but AP's recovery was pretty close to a real miracle.

One report on wric.com out of Richmond initially said torn ACL and PCL with 14-18 months of recovery. The report was then deleted.

I've since seen estimates of 9-12 months. In any case, it's unlikely that he plays next season.

I'm going to try to return my RG3 jersey and replace it with Cousins.

HTTR and here's to hoping RG3 heals quickly!

Should he require reconstructive surgery there is no reason to believe he can't retain his abilities. Other athletes come back and play just as well as prior to the injury. Athletes like:

AP
Frank Gore
Blake Griffin
Evgeni Malkin

RG3 has done it before and a second surgery doesn't mean it will be any better or worse than just once. It's a replacement surgery and frankly most doctors and trainers will prefer to go with replacement in significant tears as athletes have better chances of returning to form than going the therapy route where the injury can continue to be problematic as opposed to fully taking care of the issue during surgery.

He may return and be super effective, but 2 ACLs and you add the concussion earlier this year?

Problems.

And I do like him.

Danny Boy probably called Shanny and told him to play RGIII no matter what. I still cannot stand Danny Boy.

Amazing it took as long as it did for you to drag Danny boy back in the mix.

I don't have any issue with RG3 right now. He came back stronger than ever from the previous ACL. Whatever happens this time, I don't doubt the guy will work hard and come back and play well again.

Latest report - total reconstruction of the right knee to repair the ACL and LCL. 6-8 months recovery.

With Dr. James Andrews conducting the surgery, I'm confident that the estimates are accurate. Hopefully RG3 will be ready to go in 2013.

Incidentally, on the Junkies this morning, they talked about what the lip-readers saw when RG3 finally walked off the field with Shanny. Shanny told RG3, "I should have taken you out." RG3 replied, "It's not on you, coach." Hindsight is 20/20, but in the moment neither one of them thought this would happen. As much as I want to blame Shanny, it's hard to do so because he clearly had no intention of getting his QB hurt.

HTTR!
