Manti was talking to a man
Just a weird story. Manti spent hours talking to his "girlfriend." Turns out his "girlfriend" is a man. The voice was that of Ronaiah Tuiasosopo -- the dude behind the hoax. This is just weird, dude. This guy Tuiasosopo has got some real problems. Not only to come up with this idea but to pretend to be a girl and carry on a romantic relationship with a guy over the phone for hours -- there is something wrong with this guy. It goes beyond a prank. If it were a prank, at some point seems like you would crack up laughing on the phone or something or just not be able to carry it on as long as he did. However, to be able to sound like a woman and act like a woman for hour(s) long conversations that went on for months, this guy has some real issues. Not sure what motivated him and what he thought he was doing but would be interesting to hear from him. I'm sure he'll get his time on Dateline or some show like that.

He wanted money. Apparently he asked Manti for his checking account number. I am sure the idea was to eventually suck out some money.
I have a couple of thoughts about the calls. It may not have been the dude, but he is covering up now to protect some lady who might have been an accomplice. For example, maybe the guy had a girlfriend that was helping him and he wants to cover up her involvement.
Second, the dude is gay and Manti is gay and they enjoyed talking to one another. Look, I have no problem with gay people and don't care if Manti is gay (which I think may very well be the case), but it seems pretty plausible to me.
Whatever the case is, I am sure there will be more revelations as the facts come out.

I heard the vms and it certainly sounds like a girl but would not be surprised at all if it was a dude as some guys can mask their voices pretty well.
Still, this dude has some real problems. I can see playing a joke for a couple of days or even a week but the carry on this hoax for as long as he did and to have those types of calls over the course of that time, the dude has got some problems.
His lawyer is coming out and saying that it wasn't a hoax and that the dude has some issues and wanted a relationship with someone famous. No doubt the lawyer is trying to paint this dude as some type of victim.
Whole thing is weird.
