Apparently, the Washington Redskins are preparing to whip out their wallet and spend fast and furiously in free agency.
By now you've heard the names and the intended headline targets: Santonio Holmes at receiver; Cullen Jenkins and Barry Cofield on the defensive line; Marshall Yanda at guard; with fallback candidates to turn to at all of those needy positions on the Redskins roster. Who knows, maybe even a glitzy early push for prized cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha is in the works, with Daniel Snyder's corporate jet awaiting only the filing of its late-night flight plan.
The Skins have money to spend and there is pressure on Shanny (from himself as well as the fans) to produce more this season. We'll see what moves they make.

If we get rid of Fat Albert and McNabb, I don't have a problem with actively pursuing FAs. I heard we only have $75 committed for 2011, which means we have to spend a ton to be compliant with the minimum team salary requirements. What better way to do that than to get some quality players?
Here's my only concern...We get Asomugha and a couple other high profile FAs and we don't address all of our needs. That sounds like the Snyderatto approach. Hopefully Shanny will be much smarter and get a bunch of guys that we can use right away. First and foremost, we need to address the lines. DT and G/C are critical. Then its a matter of backfilling for the guys we lose. Rogers, McIntosh, Moss...they all started last year and could be gone.
I'm getting all jittery just thinking about football coming back. All I can say is, yippee!
Agree. We did a good job in the draft by getting additional picks/players and trying to create a better overall team as opposed to blowing our wad on a couple of guys. We should take the same approach to FA.
I do like Asomugha a lot as he is one of the premier corners in the game and is a great character guy. Rogers is good but as we all know cannot catch to save his life. Asomugha is a much better corner and given that Rogers would be looking for big money, just spend it on Asomugha.
Cullen Jenkins would be a good pick up as he is a force and understands the 3-4.
Holmes is talented but I'm afraid he will be a problem.
The other kicker in the whole thing is Shanny wants to win now so it will be interesting to see how that affects his approach to FA.
Whatever. Football is here and I can't wait.
