Caps beat the Blues

Caps won last night 3-2 against the Blues. Good game. What is exciting to see is that since we picked up the three new guys (Wideman, Arnott, and Sturm), there have been flashes of the team we saw last year. We look better and stronger and more confident.

It was good to see Arnott score the game winner yesterday. I really do feel much better abou the team and I think we will be much stronger down the stretch and heading into the playoffs.

With the win, the Caps are 1 point out of the 4th spot and 1 point out of first place in the SE division. Frankly, I don't think any of that matters as you just want to get to the playoffs and it's all a new season.

The other really good thing is that with the addition of Arnott, I feel like we have two top lines. Obviously, the Ovie, Backstrom, and Knuble line is strong. However, I now feel that the Semin, Laich, and Arnott line is a very strong line and they seemed to have meshed very quickly. I see a lot more from this line than prior to Arnott's arrival.

I haven't felt that great about the Caps this season and I know it's only been two games since the new guys showed up but so far I like what I see.

UNLEASH THE FURY!!!

No question the team seems like a different club. It is only two games and I think people should be patient, but there seems to be a real spark.

The second line is really clicking. Arnott seems like a guy who can make things happen and Semin and Laich finally have someone who can park out in front and make those tight passes in front to get quality scoring chances.

However, last night there was one power play where the Caps were really buzzing. It ended up with Arnott and Ovie at the points and they just seemed to dominate the power play.

They have had trouble in the playoffs in the past and during this season getting their power play clicking. Wideman and Arnott seem to be changing that.

I love the additions so far. I think Arnott is great for Semin. He seems to not only help him on the ice but also in communicating and understanding the game.

I remember the PP you are talking about and it was very good. We have struggled on PP all year and Wideman and Arnott have had an immediate impact on that.

We just seem to be getting WAY better scoring opportunities in the last two games. The concern is that we seem to be giving up more odd man rushes against us.

Erskine's whiff yesterday that lead to the Blues second goal was a mental gaffe but that is uncharacteristic so not going to worry about that.

All in all, I like what I see right now. Best I have felt about the team all year. One big concern though is that I don't know if I like relying on Neuvy for the playoffs. Would love if Varly got healthy but he has to soon because I don't want him to rely on him in the playoffs without getting him work during the season.
