Thoughts on Rexy

Looks more and more like Rexy will be the Skins starting QB next year. I don't have a huge problem with it as it seems like the best option given the way things have played out this year. I still don't think that highly of Rexy. He was good in the Dallas game and okay in the J Hole game but the one thing that I find tremendously interesting about the guy is that the players/coaches on the teams he plays for seem to really like the guy.

In Chicago, amidst all the criticism, the players/coaches really stood by him. The same is happening here in D.C. It's obvious that Kyle likes the guy and it's good that the two seem to be in sync. However, when you listen to players like Moss and Cooley, they really seem to like Rexy as well. Moss has said that the offense seems "light years" better than what it was when Rexy is in there. I listened to Cooley on the LaVar and Dukes show and he seemed really jazzed about Rexy being in there.

I know the fans/media are all over Rexy but that is what they do. Coaches coach. Players play. Fans/media bitch and moan. That is the nature of sports. I am not sold on Rexy but what I do like is that the players seem to be rallying around the guy and that is important. Not sure what Rexy is doing to garner the love but it's good. He does seem to have command of the huddle and players have backed that statement up and that he has good tempo in getting guys to the line and organized. Rexy comes across in interviews a little bit like an idiot or a guy that thinks he can play but really can't but his behavior on the field is a little different. He seems to show more confidence and emotion on the field which again is a good thing.

Before Robs starts going off, for the third time, I am not sold on the guy but he is making me look at him in a slightly different light. Again, his play has not been the greatest so far. It's been okay but the thing I am impressed with is the command IT APPEARS he has of the huddle and the way the players seem to be responding to him.

The Giants game will be a big game for him and he can really win/lose over people with his play in Sunday's game.

Told you years ago. Looks like you are starting to understand Rex.

I just said that I am not sold on him. I think his play is still inconsistent and uneven. However, I am fascinated that his teammates genuinely seem to stick up for him.

It would seem that his on the field persona is different from the one he protrays to the media.

So what if you said you are not sold on him? Your whole post is how he is a good fit. You cite players who love his tempo and understanding of the offense. He has won his two games as a starter.

Saying you aren't sold on him doesn't change the fact that he can win in the NFL and he is a bona fide starter.

He didn't win his two games. He lost at Dallas. He is 1-1.

He wasn't great in J Hole. Shanny said that he seemed to struggle after his INT. It does appear that he can run the offense better than Mc5. I do find it interesting how the players seem much more excited with him in there over Mc5.

However, it's 2 games. Again, he hasn't been stellar. He has a big test this week against the G-men who, depending on what GB does, have a shot at the playoffs. It's a home game so it is a great test for him.

Regardless of his play, I do not think Rexy is the answer. He seems to be the bridge between Mc5 and a young guy.

OK, but it seems like you think he can play and his peers love him and his coaches are comfortable with him.

Yet, you want to see the Deadskins bring in a young guy?

The Deadskins have far too many holes for a rookie QB to even be considered in my opinion. They should draft other players and then look in a year or two for someone who they can groom.

If they waste their first round pick on an untested rookie, it will tell me that they are still years away from being remotely competitive.

Robs, look back at what I wrote. I basically said that I am not sold on him. I said that I still don't think that highly of him.

The real point of the post was that I find it fascinating how players seem to respond to him.

Lets not get overboard with his peers "loving" him. Teammates support teammates. These same guys supported Mc5. However, it does seem that they are more excited with Rexy being in there. I assume it is because he understand the offense better. Also, I pointed out two guys. There may still be some guys that are upset about pulling Mc5. I don't really know. I am giving you my thoughts based on a short clip of Santana that I saw on tv and about 10 minutes of Cooley on the LaVar and Dukes show. I know you are truly, madly, and deeply in love with Rexy but don't get carried away.

He has a lot to prove before I would be willing to say that he a full fledged, bonafide, quality NFL starting QB.

It seems to make sense that he would be the starter next year. It's not going to be Mc5. Where does that leave us? Rexy gets along with Kyle. He seems to understand the offense well. It seems that the players are okay with him. I have long maintained that the guy has some good games but he equally has very bad games. He needs to show consistency. I don't think he would be too expensive and I think at this point in Rexy's career he would want to stay with the Skins because of his relationship with Kyle and honestly if he went on the open market, he's not going to get a ton of money and will have to start anew and probably have to compete for the possibility to start.

I wouldn't want to draft a QB either unless there was a Bradford type guy available and that doesn't seem likely. What they should do is drop Mc5, install Rexy as the #1, sign Marc Bulger as the backup, have Beck at the #3.

Then draft a D lineman that fits the 3-4 and an O lineman with the first two picks. Spend the remaining picks on a true FS, RB, and more line help.

Rex will win for the Deadskins.

If he does, don't get jealous because I will be vying for his attention.

I don't have a problem with Rexy being our QB next season. I will have a problem if he's anything more than a stop-gap solution between now and whenever our next QB of the future comes to DC. Rexy is not mobile. He's short. His arm strength is lacking. He's not the long term answer and if the Shannanigans try to pass him off as anything more than what we all know he is, I'll seriously have to question whether or not we have the right coaches in place.

Amen!

If he wins 9 games for you next year, it seems like he may be a longer term answer. The Deadskins have only had 2 winning seasons over the last 12 years.

Pathetic. That's getting into Oakland/Detroit territory.
