Apparently there is a Monday 1 pm press conference to introduce London as the new football coach at UVA. Interesting choice to stay in state. The guy is young and has had great success at FCS Richmond. We'll see if that translates to the ACC.
This is a bit of good news in an otherwise painful weekend of football for me...but I'm sure we'll get to that later.
London won a national championship in '08 at Richmond and apparently knows what it takes to win. We'll just have to see if he'll be able to recruit well enough to be competitive in the ACC, which will be a difficult task considering VA Tech seems to attract most of the talent in the state these days. I like that he's younger and I believe he will bring a new sense of attitude and a greater sense of urgency to C'ville.
This is a good hire in my opinion. A bigger name would have made recruiting easier, but in the end, you work with the talent you have and better execution and better coaching will usually prevail...I hope.
I agree that it is a solid hire. It could work out well for UVA. It certainly can't hurt.
London is a younger guy and only has two years head coaching experience. He previously served as an assistant to Groh at UVA so he is familiar with the Cavalier program.
Actually, London was the recruiting coordinator under Groh from 01-04, when UVA had a few of its top 25 recruiting classes. London has strong ties in the Hampton Roads area where much of the state's football talent comes from.
London's connections and experience will help, but we'll just have to see how he does in the recruiting competition now that he's up against the big boys.

I like it and I am all for London. If he can peel away some of the downstate talent in Hampton Roads that would be great.
