The Denver Post is reporting that the Redskins are negotiating with Shannie to be the new head coach. There is no question in my mind that the Redskins are/have been looking/negotiating with head coaches out there. Especially, now that they got rid of Cerrato and brought in a new GM, they want to start moving before other jobs become open (potentially Dallas, Chicago, Buffalo, Carolina, Oakland, TB, etc.).
Shannie seems like a good guy and he certainly has made it clear that he wants to get back into coaching. Not sure how I would feel about him coming. Yesterday, with the hiring of Allen, it seemed like Gruden was the logical choice. I actually like that choice for the reasons I laid out on the previous post. Interesting to see how this all unfolds.

This potential move doesn't get me all horny like bringing Gruden in would. Shanny won with one of the greatest QBs ever...he did very little after Elway retired. He is an offensive innovator. He seemed to be able to get production out of just about anyone on his roster. Combine him with Snyder/Allen, who should continue to keep defense a priority, and this could work out.
My problem with Shanny is he neglected his defense his last few years in Denver. He clearly didn't seem to look at the team as a whole and that would be very bad, especially in the NFC East.
Gruden is a fiery dude who worked very well with Allen in both Oakland and Tampa. He's cut from Holmgren's cloth, like Zorn, and would be able to sustain some sort of continuity from the existing team. The last thing I want right now is to lose JC and start all over. Things are starting to work and I think bringing in Shanahan would require blowing it all up.
The Shanahan rumors have been picking up steam over the past few days, especially after Monday Night's debacle. Shanahan runs a version of the West Coast offense with an emphasis on the running game. As long as we maintain some sort of continuity from this coaching staff to the next, namely sticking with a version of the WC, the transition should be fine.
Zorny's crazy fake field goal play was a nice reminder of his coaching philosophy. He thinks he can outsmart the other team with erratic and unconventional play calling. He pays no mind to the fact that simplicity leads to rhythm, which leads to confidence and consistency. During his press conference, he said he thought the play was unique enough that the Gigantics wouldn't have figured out what was coming. In reality, it boiled down to having one guy available to block five. The Gigantics rushed Smith so quickly he couldn't do anything except heave it up and hope for a miracle.
Zorny's been a nice guy, but he's no head coach. Bring in Gruden, Shanny, Cowher, or anyone else...please. It can't get any worse.
