Post article on Tiger

Good article by Howard Kurtz in today's Post on Eldrick.

It starts out with the following:

"All those who said Tiger should keep his head down and his lips zipped and the tabloid circus would quiet down, raise your hands.

You hit it into the rough.

That was never, ever going to work.

If this was just a matter of a spat with his wife and the damage to his Cadillac Escalade, maybe he could have gone the strong-and-silent route.

But come on: from the moment he rammed into that tree, Tiger has acted like he's got something to hide.

There's a reason that generations of PR professionals have advised all manner of miscreants to get the bad news out early and put the embarrassment behind you. If you're a big-deal public figure, it's going to come out anyway, especially in this age of blogs and gossip sites, of voice mail and texting.

So you get what Tiger's got right now: an image as a stonewaller, followed by an apology for unspecified "transgressions." Worst of both worlds. A bigger handicap."

Again, the guy should have just come out early on.

If the only bad news was one affair - perhaps.

Howie Kurtz is a good writer, but if Tiger has multiple affairs going back over his 5 years of marriage I don't see how that helps.

There is a third woman now in Las Vegas who is negotiating to tell her story. Apparently there are are references to a couple of other women. Whether he talks about them or not they are going to come out and the story hurts Tiger.

You really love this Tiger story. I suppose you will start a Tiger-mistress watch and show us pictures of all of the ladies.

Fine with me, but you are just soaking all of it up. Do you rush home and turn on your tivoed edition of TMZ?

One, you can't help but see stuff on Tiger.

Two, it is more to just show you that it would have been better to just step out in front, briefly acknowledge/accept it, and be done with it.

You seem to think he has followed a good strategy. I have been saying that in a perfect world, he would have been able to taken care of this privately but as you said, he is TIGER FREAKING WOODS and it would have been best to show face early on and deal with it head on.
