Jansen out, Heyer in!

I like the move. Now I don't think that Heyer is an All Pro or anything but Jansen is clearly struggling. He seems to have real difficulty in pass protection and as difficult as it may be, it was time to make a move. Apparently Jansen is a solid run blocker and has been practicing at Guard. It may be a way to extend his career. I also know Jansen has a lot of pride and probably expected that the RT job was his but too bad.

Not surprising.

I think we all saw this coming. Maybe he just needs a little more time to get up to speed again, but right now Jansen's about as quick as the Bears are good.

So you are saying that Jansen should be starting and is the best offensive player on the team?

I don't agree.

Hah!

Jansen has lost a step or two, just like the Bears since they went to the Super Bowl.

Improving his game enough to get back on the starting team isn't out of the question. Zorn said so himself yesterday, but he said there are a number of reasons why they went with Heyer instead and that Jansen would have to wait for his opportunity to come back.

In all seriousness, Jansen seems about done to me, but I thought this two years ago. It is perfectly appropriate to turn the page and move on.

If the Bears D gets its mojo back they will be fine. The offense will be solid. I hope Orton is "the Man" but I have much more confidence in Rex. In fact, I expect that he will be the starter by mid-year. It will all come down to whether the D is in fact a great defense or a bad defense. It really has not been that great for the last year and a half (including the second half of the Super Bowl year).

I think Jansen might have better success in the Guard position (which is where he is practicing). For one, he is better at run blocking and he struggles in pass blocking. He has lost a step and will lose the one on one battles against the younger, speedier DEs of the league. He might find better success in the interior where he will be matched up against slower guys that will have to face him head on.

I may be oversimplifying things as I am sure any offensive lineman would probably tell me there is a big difference between tackle and guard.

Still, he is a solid backup at tackle and maybe he would be decent at guard. We will see.

I don't think the Bears are any good but we'll see.
