Urlacher is a jerk!

So Urlacher is now missing involuntary sessions and says, "It's easy for people to criticize me for wanting [a new deal], and I understand that it's a contract and I signed it," Urlacher said, according to Yahoo.com. "But this is the NFL, and if I'd signed it and I'd played like [expletive], they'd have cut me or tried to get me to take less. In my mind, there's no difference. If they can 'break' a contract, I have a right to ask for more if I play well enough."

Urlacher still has 4 years left on a 9 year/$56.5M contract. He wanted the security and got a great deal before. Now he wants to break the contract and get something new. That's a real jerk move in my mind.

The thing is the Bears have offered to restructure the contract. They have offered a deal that is believed to include $5M up front and up to $1M added to his contract per year if he participates in 85 percent of the team's defensive snaps.

The Bears are playing fair and Urlacher is being greedy. He is 30 years old and coming off of neck/back injuries and I'm sure we have seen the best of Urlacher. Middle LB is a tough position and it's hard to sustain a high level of play for a number of years. Urlacher has been great but again, I think we have seen the best of him. The Bears treated him fairly and now he wants to be a jerk. For some reason, I thought Urlacher was different from many of the greedy athletes of today. I suppose I was wrong and I think a whole lot less of the guy now.

He is getting paid fairly - he was given a chance to make even more. The Bears organization has done its part.

If Urlacher wants to quit, that is fine with me. He is aging and has injuries - there is no way I want to see the Bears give in to his unreasonable demands.

In the end, his choice will be to play for the Bears or quit. It is up to him.

Is it just me, or is everyone on the Bears' roster a greedy bastard? Seems like they're all willing to jump ship. Either the FO is filling the roster with jerks or the players don't feel like they're being treated fairly.

Either way, it doesn't bode well for da Bears.

It will be interesting to see how this all pans out. It will also be interesting to see how he is received by the fans. I'm sure if he plays well, all will be forgiven. However, if he struggles, he will certainly hear it from the fans who I am sure are upset with him regarding this contract nonsense.

Too bad. He literally went from an all time fan favorite to a jerkweed in a very short amount of time.
