Bears Preseason Game #2

Was very similar to much of last year. Was not impressed with the offense. Grossman was bad. Benson did not get much in the way of running lanes. Defense was okay but they gave up quite a bit of yardage...granted they were playing the Super Bowl Champ Colts and their vaunted offense. The Bears special teams were great. Hester and Manning each had long returns and set up Bears offense.

Griese was solid in the backup role.

All in all, I expected more but it is still preseason and they have time to improve.

The first team D was great. I don't know what game you were watching. They held the first team Colts offense to just 85 yards. They stopped the Colts from scoring after Rex threw the interception and the Colts took over inside the Bears 20 yard line.

The scoring drive the Colts had started at the 50 yard line, so it was a short field.

Bears special teams were great.

The Bears first team offense appeared rusty but still moved the ball fairly well on the opening drive. They had two drives where they were pinned down and started at the Bears 13 and the Bears 1 yard lines. The Bears had two drives on short fields and got a field goal and punched one in for a TD.

If Grossman cuts down on the mistakes - which I fully expect - the Bears will make a good run at the Lombardi trophy. I am not concerned at all at this point because he has had a great camp and his accuracy looks to be much better.

Let's not forget the Bears montra, "The Bear's would have won the Super Bowl if Donovan McNabb was the quarterback." Look for young Rexy to have some sort of nagging injury pop up after losing to the Cowboys in week 3, which will be the excuse for the Bears finishing up with a 9 and 7 season. Don't be surprised when the Skins squeak out the wildcard because of the head to head tie-breaker with the win on 12/6 at home.

I see that you have neglected to mention the steller running game that the Bear's exhibited. Maybe the offensive gurus can come up with a running play and blocking scheme that simulates a punt return so that a running back can get down field.

A parting thought from a great man, "A funky rhyme to a foe or good friend, listen up 'cause I want you to comprehand...."

I agree that if rexy can indeed cut down on the mistakes, the bears can make a run for the super bowl. However, I also agree with deepie in that the afc is still the better conference.

Also, the bears d was not "great.". The colt starters played one quarter. If they mustered 85 yards in that quarter, then you might be able to say that they would have gotten 340 yards in the game. That is not great. The goal line stand was good.

I have already said that the special teams were great.

j&k'sdad'sfriend needs to check into rehab. Losing Dockery and not upgrading the D-line is going to kill the Redskins.

As I have said for months, my belief is that Rex will cut down on the mistakes. If he doesn't, then the Bears have other options at QB.

As for the AFC being better - who the Hell cares? The Super Bowl has one AFC team and one NFC team. If the NFC is weaker then great, the Bears have a better chance to make it through.
