Skins drop three spots to #18.

Pears climb one spot to #5.

Puckers climb one spot to #7.

Sounds about right.

I think Green Bay should be higher. The offense is unstoppable again and really they should be 5-2. Aaron Rodgers is regaining his mvp form wih 9 td passes in the last two games which were away. They look powerful as they thrashed the Texans and the Rams. Loss of Charles Woodson hurts but the defense will be helped by the offense. they can beat anyone right now.

Seems right. The Redskins shouldn't be any higher until the pass D can stop giving up big plays. A win at Pittsburgh followed by a win against Carolina should get them moving up in the right direction.

The Pears are great on D, but the offense has been shut down by good teams. At 5-2, I think they're either just right or a bit high.

The Pack are 4-3. Two good games has them back in the top 10. I don't disagree. Losing Woodson will hurt and I won't be surprised if they struggle a little while he's out, so I expect to see them drop off in the following weeks.

Fine with all the rankings.

Skins are a middle of the pack team. Offensively they are very good but pass defense is very bad. We score a lot but we give up a lot.

Pears have been the beneficiaries of a light schedule but they have taken care of business. Defense is good. Offense is unpredictable. Still, they are deserving of their rank.

Puckers have shown signs of previous years potency over the last couple of weeks but are these anomalies or are they truly back? They have suffered injuries on the defensive side and they still have questions on the O line. They are deserving of where they are. They certainly don't look as intimidating or dominating as they have over the last couple of years but we'll see if they can continue their better play.

I'm not sure I would call the Bears' schedule light. It seems like pretty much everyone else's schedule.

Deeps, the Bears are 5-1, not 5-2.

I'm good with the rankings so far.

Bob has been far better than I thought he would be - but I still expect him to have some troubles because teams will scheme for him. The Packers still have work to do to show me that they are going to be able to compete all year. I don't like their O-line or their D - especially without Woodson.

The only team the Pears have played with a winning record was the Puckers and they lost. There isn't much reason to debate. It's clear the schedule hasn't been overly taxing. It's not there fault and good for them for taking care of business.

Bob is a hard player to scheme against. I expect him to have an off game or two but thus far he is playing at a VERY high level and has to be considered a top QB in this league already as a rookie. His stats point to this as well.

Puckers had a big game against the Texans and pulled out a 30-20 victory over the improving Rams. It's too early to tell if they are back or not. My gut tells me that they aren't as great as in previous seasons. They are still a very good team but not the dominating team we have seen in previous years so I am good with where they are ranked.

Have you looked at the teams in front of them? Aside from the 49ers, the other teams (Falcons, Giants, and Texans) have all played similar teams as the Bears. That is the nature of the NFL these days. There are only 3 teams in the AFC that have winning records.

It doesn't much matter, but the Bears are awesome!

Its really about who turns it on towards the end. Itll be fun to watch. This week is a big one for the skins. A win will convince me that they will compete for a playoff spot. A loss and i think itll be next year.

I agree with JSR. The Packers and Pears will make things interesting by turning it up to a new level as the regular season comes closer to an end. It will be interesting.

The Skins have a huge game this Sunday. A win puts them back at .500 with a home game against struggling Carolina next. We could go into the bye week at 5-4, which would put us in a great spot going into the long stretch of division games that will follow. HTTR!

I can agree with what JSR is saying. However, the rankings are based on the teams at this moment and I am comfortable with how they are ranked today. Obviously, things can/will change depending on what happens with each team each week.

I have never counted the Skins going to the playoffs this year. I was hoping that they would be .500 and playing relevant games late into the season and so far that is taking place. Playoffs this year would be a BIG bonus for me.

PLAYOFFS!? PLAYOFFS!?

The Deadskins are a secondary and some pass rush away from even being close to a playoff contender. I love Bob as a franchise QB but let's get a grip. This is a passing league and when you don't have the ability to stop the pass you are in trouble.

Bob may steal a game or two during the season, but that will just get them to about 7-9 in the end.

I think a lot will be told this week against the steelers. If the Skins can find a way to win Against a tough opponent in a tough environment, In my opinion they will have turned a corner And Have to be considered a playoff contender. Its a true test for where this team is and will go this year. If they lose i think 6-10 Or 7-9.

Even if they somehow win - which I don't think will happen - it doesn't change the fact that their secondary is terrible.

The Deadskins have some hope for the future, but they are not even close to being a serious playoff contender in the NFC.

Again, I never expected us to get to the playoffs this season.

However, to say that we are not even close to being a serious playoff contender is incorrect.

If we had an even smidge of pass/secondary defense, we would be atop our division. We have been one of the best offensive teams in the league. The run defense has been stout. The pass defense has been atrocious as we have not only given up a lot of pass yards but have done so by giving up a number of big plays. It is ridiculous. In all our losses, it was the pass defense that failed us. St. Louis, Cincinnati, NYG, perhaps less so in the Hotlanta game but it's not just bad pass defense but horrible pass defense. It is the common theme in our losses. Keep in mind, the pass defense wasn't great in our wins either. If not for the offense led by RG3, our record would be worse.

The point is that it's not like there are holes across the board as in previous years. Sure, we would like more talent at certain spots. What team wouldn't? However, the crux of our issues lies with the secondary. Again, if this was a better group, we could have easily one another game or two.

Rob said...

Ah, but you don't have a secondary.

We can only look from year to year. This Deadskin team is not a serious contender for a playoff spot.

The team is not close because it doesn't have anywhere close to an average NFL-caliber secondary. The secondary is terrible. In a passing league that just doesn't cut it.

Next year, if they sign/draft some secondary players we can re-assess, but then they may not have linebackers or offensive linemen or something else. That is why we have to look from year to year.

JSR said...

Big holes in the secondary. Each qb has over 300 yrds passing except josh freeman who had 299. That is a major liability. No first round picks for the next two years means they will have to sign free agents... and we know how the redskins have fared with that approach. Plus there is a cap penalty next year Too. Ill just say a win at Pitt would be impressive and put them in the playoff hunt. There are too many good teams in the nfc So a wild card is unlikely. Theyd have to win the division.

Robs, true that we have to look year to year. The good news is that the team is MUCH younger than it has been in previous seasons and we have been building up depth. That is apparent by the injuries on the O line, D line, and LBs and there has been little dropoff in play at those positions. Still, you are correct that we must evaluate from year to year but I like the direction of the team and how it is being built.

JSR, we will still have draft picks (although no first rounder as you mentioned) and we will still be able to sign FAs. I imagine the focus of the offseason will be spent on secondary. We will just have to wait and see what moves are made there.
