ESPN Power Rankings - Week 2

Skins #15 - up nine spots.

Pears #8 - up one spot.

Puckers #5 - down four spots.

WOW!  Skins took a tremendous leap jumping higher than any other team in the league.  Personally, I think it is too much as it was only one game granted it was a great game against a good opponent in a tough place to play.  However, still it seems like too much for me.

Pears position makes sense.  Same too with the Puckers.

I agree with the rankings. Also, I think the Packers will regain the top spot at some point. this is an adjustment period. The first 3-4 weeks with a new offensive coordinator are going to be shaky. We really have to find a running game. I have faith in Rodgers. He will be able to adjust to changes and carry the team. That is something Favre was great at doing. It doesn't get any easier as we have the Pears on Thursday night.

I love Rodgers as a QB and think they will be fine offensively, but he doesn't play D.

I have a feeling the Skins will show their true colors this week and play down to the Rams. We'll get a much better feel for how good this team can be after this week. I'm thinking 15 is too high.

Something is wrong with the Pack. If they can't get the running game figured out, Rodgers is going to continue to have to do things on his own, which won't be good enough to go all the way. The D isn't very good right now. I'm not sure why.

The Pears will be inching their way up the chart in the coming weeks. This team is solid, which vexes me. I'm terribly vexed.

I think the Puckers have some explaining to do. They weren't that impressive in preseason. While I don't put too much stock in preseason, it seemed to carry over to the regular season as they weren't particularly impressive on Sunday. The main issues with them are a lack of a running game and their defense. Rodgers is a great QB but he can't do it by himself. They just don't seem as explosive as in previous seasons.

Meanwhile, the Pears are interesting. No question they are better offensively with the addition of Marshall. I think Bush is a nice pick up to spell Forte and give him a break. Still, will be interesting to see how the O line holds up and the defense is aging. They will be exposed by better teams. They are a solid team but don't seem like an elite team so contrary to Deepie, I am not "vexed" at all. In fact, I am vexed by Deepie being vexed.

I think the Skins will do fine this week. I expect to win this game. I think the Rams will be improved this year and they did well against the Lions last week but I still expect to beat this team. That said, I do think jumping as far/high as we did in the rankings is a little extreme. Almost like ESPN has become a typical Skins fan and has fallen head over heels in love with RG3.

A loss to the Rams and I imagine we will fall as far as we rose this week.

The last three years the Deadskins have started 3-1, usually with a big signature win early. I expect the same fading effect as the season wears on. However, unlike years past, I do think they are building something that might actually make them a playoff threat in a year or two.

To me, that is major progress.

I agree. The easier part of our schedule is early on and things get much tougher later in the season.

I have said all offseason, preseason, and now regular season that my expectations/hopes are for the Skins to win 7-8 games but be competitive in all of them as it finally appears we are building something.

We are much younger, faster, have more depth. London Fletcher mentioned the change in culture and how it was amazing that the Skins had to cut guys with talent (i.e., Hightower, Cooley, etc.).

Grant Paulsen said that the locker room has a different feel to it. There is more unity and intensity.

He also mentioned the difference in training camp and how it was much more intense and there wasn't any 7 on 7 drills and that RG3 had to face the #1 D and all of their looks basically to give him a crash course in NFL football. RG3 said that it made a difference as he felt like he faced tougher competition in practice than he did in the Saints game.

Things are only going to get tougher from here as opposing teams will have tape and can gameplan against the Skins but the point is that we are actually building something and we don't have the divas/distractions from previous seasons.

Kyle Shanny has a QB that has the talent and abilities to run the offense he wants and is willing to work and be the leader. The culture is changing and we appear to be headed in the right direction.

If we are competitive and play hard week in/week out, I will be happy but next season will truly be the measure of how successful the Shannys have been as we need to make a playoff run next year.
