Goodbye Semin! We'll miss you.

Alexander Semin signed yesterday with the Carolina Hurricanes thus officially leaving the Capitals. He was one of the most polarizing figures on the team. At times, he showed unbelievable skill and scoring abilities but other times showing incredibly stupid decisions in taking dumb penalties and looking bored out on the ice. It was the inconsistency that was most frustrating. It's too bad because I liked him but I'm sure there were those on the team that grew tired of his antics and it was probably best for both parties for him to leave. Now he gets a fresh start and hopefully he doesn't come back to bite us. One thing for certain, judging by the video, I don't think we have much to worry about in terms of his beating anyone up.

Not sure what to think of losing Semin. Despite his inconsistency and apparent lack of focus, he was always good for 25-30 or so goals each season. That's not easy to come by. If guys like Johansson and Perreault can step up their games, and if Backstrom can stay healthy, Semin won't be missed much. Johansson was a bit of a disappointment last year though and Perreault seems like a steady role player than a dynamic goal scorer. Neither one is as skilled as Semin.

I guess we'll have to see what happens.

That video is great. Semin obviously isn't a fighter. The "punches" he throws at the end are hilarious! If hockey doesn't work out, he should at least have a solid career in a reggae or African folk band playing the drums.

True we will miss Semin's goals but the fact that the Caps didn't even bother offering Semin a contract speaks volumes as to how they felt about him.

I'm sure he was too divisive inside the locker room and really got his teammates frustrated with him.

The question will be how Ovi reacts to this. Semin was probably his best friend on the team and I'm sure it has to sting from a professional as well as personal standpoint.

I think letting Semin go was the right thing to do for both sides but agree that we need to find additional scoring power from some where.
