Brett Favre who?

Perfect ending for a perfectly horrible year for Brett Favre. The guy sucked this year. His team sucked. Strong allegations of personal misconduct came out against him. He got battered and bruised (leg, arm, head). His sister was busted at a drug house. Then to top it off his former team wins the Super Bowl.

The interesting thing is that Rodgers has become one of the best QBs in the league. People forget that when he took over after Favre left, GB fans were booing him. The guy has handled himself with professionalism and class and on top of it has performed unbelievably.

It’s also interesting because again, if Favre had just left when he originally retired, he would still be loved in GB. He will always be one of the best players to have played the game. There is no disputing that. However, he is not nearly as loved in GB country as he used to be. He could have been legendary there. Instead, it’s like Brent Who? It has become Aaron Rodgers team and he is the guy loved. Again, not just for his play but for his class.

He'll get his love, and I think a lot of it will be because the Packers won another Super Bowl.

Now Packer fans can unite behind Rodgers - even the last Favre holdouts - and I'm sure Rodgers will say some nice things about Favre and all will be forgiven.

It certainly won't be the same as it could have been if he had just walked away quietly - or even if he had signed early and been committed to the team. Favre's problem was that he thought of himself as more important than the team. He wanted to operate on his own schedule and under his own rules.

Rodgers is a team guy that is there every day to work. Now that he has won it is clearly his team. Good for him. But, I think the bad feelings for Favre will melt away to some extent and he will recover some of the fans who left him - not all, but many of them.

I don't doubt that feelings will thaw over time but it won't be like it could have been.

Rodgers is clearly the guy that is loved in GB. Favre is deemed to many as a traitor. Over time, he will be recognized for his accomplishments but equally for his leaving the team and how he chose to do so.
