CP released

In a not so surprising move, running back Clinton Portis has been released by the Washington Redskins, the team announced Monday.

Portis is just 77 yards shy of 10,000 career rushing yards and 648 shy of Hall of Famer John Riggins' Redskins franchise record.

Too bad because despite the antics, I was largely a CP fan. Despite his wear and tear, at 29, he is still a serviceable back. He is still one of the best blocking backs in the game and can still be a solid running back. However, he is not a featured back anymore and certainly isn't worth the $8+ million he would have been due next year.

Hopefully he lands some place where he can be productive and get is career back on track after two injury plagued seasons. Maybe he will see success similar to what LT saw this past year. If nothing else, he should certainly be able to reach the 10,000 yard mark easily and go on to be one of the top rushing yard backs of all time.
