Bye, Bye, Jon-Jon!

Jansen was released today. Good move. I like the guy and he has been a great Redskin but he has suffered too many serious injuries (A ruptured Achilles tendon in 2004, two broken thumbs in 2005, a torn calf muscle in 2006, a broken ankle in 2007 and a sprained knee in 2008) and he is 33. He has WAY too much wear and tear on the body. Apparently he thought he could still play and the Skins let him come in and prove it but the coaching staff didn't feel like he could compete and let him go. The good thing about that is they still gave him enough time to hook on with another team and probably serve as a backup and it also pretty much locks up Stephon Heyer as the RT. He has to feel pretty good that he is the guy. Heyer has worked hard and wanted that RT position badly.

Jansen was a dominant RT until that Achilles injury. He was 2nd rate, at best, since then. The more the injuries piled up, the more of a liability he became. Obviously he was a tough guy and a great teammate, but I think he stayed as long as he did because of the salary cap implications.

Heyer needs to step up and take the starting RT spot. If he can't do it, hopefully Mike Williams will be down to about 350 lbs by the time he's needed and maybe he can step in. It all goes back to what I believed was the biggest need in the draft...an offensive tackle. Maybe next year we'll draft one.

WHERE IS LANDRY?

I'm not concerned about Landry at this point. The fact that he's not returning messages from his coach is a little troubling and it shows a lack of maturity. I'm sure he won't hear the end of it if he shows he's not ready for training camp. If he is out of shape and not prepared for training camp, he'll get his arse handed to him by the coaching staff and he'll learn his lesson, hopefully.

These are voluntary OTAs. Of course Zornstar wants him there, but if he's getting himself into game-shape, so be it.
