Redskins vs. Eagles - Pregame thoughts

So another tough NFC East game for the Redskins. This time they go on the road (again!) to face the Eagles. I'm sure it will be a raucous crowd and they always talk about how physical these games are (remember the body bag game?). What I also find interesting is that every game the Skins play it is always another type of challenge that we haven't seen before. With the Cards it was the preciseness of Warner and their big WRs. With the Cowboys it was their superior talent and that they ran a complex 3-4 defense - something the Skins line had struggled with. Now, with the Eagles, it is their tough defense and complicated blitzing schemes so JC will have to watch out.

What I love is that we have managed to take on all of these challenges so far and perform well. Credit must go to the coaching for preparing the players for what is to come. We'll see how well we match up against the Eagles on Sunday. They may be without Westbrook their most exciting player but we will probably be without Jason Taylor and Shawn Springs. Injuries are part of the game and teams have to deal with that.

I must admit that I never thought we would be 3-1 at this point in the season. However, we are and we need to keep this thing going. We can't have a let down against this Eagle team. If we can pull of this win, not only will we be right there at or near the top of the division but we will have a ton of confidence and really would have served warning to the entire league that we are a legitimate contender. I think we have done that to some degree but this win would be huge. We would have already played all three divisional opponents on their home turf so we wouldn't have to worry about that and we would be in great position near the top of the division.

I expect a physical game. I expect JC to perform well again. He, along with the team and coaches, seem to be gaining confidence in each other and believing that we are a quality team. I expect short, quick passes to help JC avoid the variety of blitz packages but I still believe we will take one or two shots deep downfield. As always, we will need to keep giving it to Portis to keep the defense on their toes and lighten the load on JC.

On the defensive side it really all depends on if Westbrook plays. He single handedly hurt us last year. We will need to contain him. We did a great job on Bush when we played New Orleans and we didn't allow Barber much of anything when we played Dallas. However, Westbrook is a different type of back and we will need to make sure we can contain him. Also, we need to be aware of the deeper balls to the speedy DeSean Jackson. I like Landry back there so hopefully he doesn't allow anyone to get behind him.

I think we will do well and I like the Skins winning 27-16.

HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!!!!
