Thug Johnson - SUSPENDED!

"Thug" Johnson got his punishment from Goodell and it is an 8 game suspension that can be reduced to 6 if he complies with all the conditions of the suspension and shows good behavior. Good behavior for Thug? Good luck! Glad this guy isn't on my team. He has shown continued poor judgement and has been a menace to society and a detriment to his team.

I'm glad he isn't on your team either. He is loved by the Bears and is a great player. He will do his punishment and then be just fine.

He's an arrogant thug who thinks that because he is an athlete, he is above the law. Well, he ain't above my law. He's just another fat turd on a decaying defense. Thug is out, Briggs and Brown want out, you wait and see who else will want out in the next year or so. I know you contend that their players are replaceable. We'll see.

Tank is not a thug and has been very adult in his acceptance of his punishment. He has not cried about it, he has said that he will turn his life around and I believe him.

So what if Briggs and Brown want out? Brown isn't a starter and both Briggs and Brown have virtually no interest around the NFL. No one is going to pay them the kind of money they want.

La Canfora has an interesting entry today. He says the Bears may cut Briggs rather than pay him the franchise tag salary (not likely in my opinion). Then, Snyder (who has already promised Drew Rosenhaus that he will pay Briggs an ungodly sum of money) will overpay him to come to Washington.

Briggs and Brown are easily replaceable. Brown has already been replaced and it certainly looks like Briggs is nearly replaced.

The problem is that those guys are just the beginning. Again, the Bears won't pay their players. Thus, the players will walk and it creates bad feelings among the players. Now if the Bears can just interchange players and stay good, then they deserve credit. We'll see who is next to want out and we'll see if the Bears can simply replace them and stay competitive.

Tank is still a thug.

Every team has a few players who want out. That is the nature of the NFL. However, the Bears have been very good at drafting, developing players, and re-signing their key guys.

Brown is under contract for 3 more years and wants out because he is no longer the starter. So what?

Briggs and his agent over-valued what he is worth. That is why no one wants to trade for him or pay him the big money.

The Bears are going to lose one or both of their starting corners next year - but they still have Ricky Manning, Danieal Manning, Chris Harris, and they drafted 2 more corners this last year (Devin can also play corner in a pinch). My guess is that they will sign Tillman or Vasher to new deals this summer, but if not then so be it.

As I have said many times, the Bears philosophy is to pay all of their guys above average salaries so that they are largely even across the roster. They don't overpay for a couple of stars and give everyone else the minimum. That is why they have depth and quality talent throughout.

The Redskins pay a couple of guys tons of money, then they have to pick up guys off the street who are willing to play for the minimum. We can look at the records of the Bears and Redskins over the last couple of years and see which is working.

Above average salaries? Their entire D line is WAY underpaid! Many of those guys don't even make $1M/year. No. What they have done is drafted very well and gotten great production out of some of their higher round draft choices (e.g., Mark Anderson). The question is if they can continue this trend of great draft choices. The thing is also now that they have had success and their players are getting attention, they won't settle for such low salaries. We will see what happens.

Where is the interest for Briggs? Where is the interest for Brown? Nowhere. Guys are welcome to ask for whatever they want, but the Bears are a great organization in how they pick players, develop players, and handle salaries. It translates to wins.

It is just laughable that you are criticizing the Bears. They are winners. You should criticize your Redskins because they are the losers.

Fine, it may be the case that teams will wait until Briggs and Brown are FAs but my point is that they are just the beginning. You can see it happening right in front of your eyes. Before last season, not many people outside of Chicago knew of Brown, Tillman, Vasher, Anderson, Hester, Berrian, etc. Success breeds egoes and these players will want to be paid. They will no longer be satisfied being paid less than $500K/year. They are paid well under market value. Fine, it is a credit to the Bear organization for finding these guys and drafting them in later rounds and getting maximum benefit out of them. I have commended them for that. If they can continue to do that and just replace guys one after another, then they know what they are doing. My contention is that the players see how the organization isn't willing to pay their players and would rather they walk and be replaced with a young, unproven player. I don't think that is going to sit well. We'll see.

Fine, we'll see.

But chew on this. Next year, the Redskins will be turning over their roster once again because their cap number is again way too high. Three of their offensive linemen will be making more than $8.5M/year, Portis will be up around $8M, and Cooley is due a new contract (if they can come up with the money). If JC is any good, they are going to have to pay him a ton more money. His salary is just over $500K this year. Rocky's rookie contract will be coming to an end after next season, so if he is any good they will have to do something with him.

The point is that even if your team miraculously makes it to .500, they will again be rebuilding. The Bears on the other hand will at least be winning.
