Guy was in a motorcycle accident today breaking his arm and three bones in his leg. Fortunately, the injuries appear to be non life threatening. Still, it's amazing how quickly his career faded. A couple of years ago, he was still considered one of the premier LBs in the game. Always and aggressive big playmaker, he struggled understanding the 'Skins defense and then struggled with the Giants last year. When he finally looked like he was improving, he ruptured his Achilles tendon. Just as he was making his way back, he now suffers the injuries from his accident.
It's too bad because I always liked Lavar but it truly is amazing how he went from great to probably being done at 29 years of age. I suppose he was thinking about retirement even before the accident.

He was mistreated in Washington and his life took a turn for the worst. Sad.
First I must say I feel sorry for the guy and I hope he can resurrect his career. He's extremely talented and he's a good guy. It would be a shame for his career to end this way.
As far as being mistreated in Washington is concerned, I think the 'Skins recognized part of the problem when they fired LB coach Dale Lindsey. If you're talking about the contract issue, Lavar ended that issue on his own when he repealed his grievance and fired his agent. He just wanted to play football...unfortunately, he wasn't able to play very much due to the ruined relationship with Lindsey. Sure Double G or Gibbsey could have stepped in but they put their trust in someone who turned out to be someone they couldn't trust. It's unfortunate, but at least the change has allowed Rocky McIntosh to start developing properly.
Lindsey f'ed LaVar up. Gibbsy and Man-Boobs didn't do anything about it. We agree he was mistreated, but that happens to a lot of players on a lot of teams. Tough break, but that is what happened.
Hopefully for Rocky, he will be a player.
Funny how RobsObs will somehow squeeze in and indirectly say that this accident is the Redskins fault. Let it go, dude. The guy was in a serious accident. Regardless of how he was treated just wish the guy well.
Still, it was clear he had lost something over the last couple of years. If you want to blame the 'Skins for ALL of that, fine. He is going to turn 29 years old and should still be in the prime of his career. However, he clearly lost something and wasn't the player he used to be. He was considering retirement even before the accident. I like him and I wish him well and it would be amazing to see him come back and have a decent career.
Still, I think he is pretty much done. He has had several serious injuries now and he seemed to lost his heart for the game which in turn had him playing at a lower level than we were accustomed to. Given that he was already considering retirement and that no team will invest huge money into him, my guess is that he is pretty much done.

It is a fact that he was mistreated in DC. It is also a fact that his life took a turn for the worst.
We were down that road a couple of years ago. Just as in ANY argument, there are points on both sides. I'm sure Lavar wasn't totally in the right. Okay, fine he was mistreated but you are young and rich and talented so go and continue your career. Prove the 'Skins wrong. Come back to D.C. and stick it to us. Sadly, for him, all he did in his play was confirm that we made the right decisions with him. Again, I like him. I wished things worked out with him here. It's all too bad and now I just wish him a speedy recovery and hope that he is happy in whatever he decides to do with his life.

I have said that there was a disagreement and I'm sure neither side was totally in the right. I also basically said in the original post that it was sad.
