Mark Prior done?

Those that know me know that I am a deepie Cubs fan. It's a shame what has become of Mark Prior. Considered at one time to be a perennial Al Star and in 2003 was 5 outs from taking the Cubbies to the World Series, his career is now in jeopardy. He has been plagued by injuries and just went under the knife again and will be out of action for another year. Feel bad for the guy. He is 27 years old but has been hobbled by injuries and who knows what will become of him. Hopefully he can come back and have some type of career. Until then....GO CUBBIES!!!! SOX ARE AWESOMENESS 2007!!!! SCHILLING'S SOCK WAS FOR REAL!!!!! YANKS ARE IN THE CELLAR OF THE EAST!!!!! A-ROD SUX (unless of course he comes to the Cubs in which case I will go in for my gender reassignment because I will fall madly, deeply in love with him)!!!!!

You're a "deepie Cubs fan"? Hmm...was that a slip up or are you subconsciously obsessing over me? Needless to say, I'm scared.

Prior has the talent to comeback given how young he is. The question is will his surgically repaired arm/shoulder be able to hold up to the stress of pitching 100+ pitches a game? We'll have to see.

I doubt the Yanks will get rid of A-Rod. Looks like you'll have to hold off on the gender reassignment.

There was no slip up. I am obsessing over you and I'm scared too!

Prior has had too many issues with his arm. Apparently there was a lot of damage up in there. Strange because people used to say he had such a smooth delivery. He was compared to Tom Seaver. Frankly, the stress that a pitcher's arm go through with each pitch is just not natural for the arm/shoulder. Prior's delivery has changed as a result of his injuries. I wish him well but who knows if he will ever be able to get back to any semblance of what he was. I wish him well.

Why do you think A-Wipe will stay with the Yankees? The fans have been all over him. His teammates have called him out. His manager demoted him to batting 8th in the lineup in the playoffs. He can get another long term, guaranteed lucrative contract somewhere else where he could go back to playing SS. Why not leave?

He got demoted when he was slumping. He got his over his Jeter-spat this off-season and he's a changed man...back to his old form. His level of performance right now is unprecedented. He's by far the best offensive threat they have. The only way the Yankees would let him go is if they get a lot in return in the form of pitching talent.

The thing is A-Wipe can opt out of his contract. Boras will be able to command another 8-10 year $25M dollar/year contract. The Yanks said that they were not going to get into a bidding war but expect A-Rod to get another deal. We'll see if the Yanks pony up. They may well have to because I'm sure the Sox will make a run. Especially because this will probably be Manny's last year and they will need a replacement. Keep in mind, Fenway is a MUCH more friendly park for right handed batters and can only help A-Rod become the all time HR king.

Not going to happen. Who is going to pay him that much? A-Rod is a great player, but I cannot imagine anyone paying him more. He will get offers for longer term deals, but it won't be for $25M/year.

He'll have to decide if he wants more guaranteed money now, or if he wants to play out his contract and then try to get his money later.

We'll see. When he's on, he's by far the best player in baseball. He's got several good years left in him. He'll get offers no question. The same thing happened with J.D. Drew this past offseason. There is no reason to believe that A-Rod won't get offers this offseason. Why wait until this contract expires. He will be in his mid thirties and you could be sure that he wouldn't get the kind of long term, guaranteed, high salary type of deal that he could get in this offseason.

What team is going to pay him $25M/year? Even the Yankees aren't paying him that. The Rangers agreed to pay him about $7M/year of his salary just so the Yankees would take him.

I know the Rangers pay a good portion of his salary. It's been a great deal for A-Rod. We'll see what happens. If he continues to have a monster year AND, more importantly, assuming the Yankees get to the playoffs, plays well in the playoffs, he will have gotten his fans, his teammates, and his manager off his back and may be willing to stay. I don't doubt that there will be suitors for A-Rod this offseason (Boston, Angels, Cubs, Yankees). We'll see what happens. Again, greed prevails in sports.

Teams will come calling, but like I said, no one will pay him $25M (or more) per year. He might as well stick out his contract. Unless he wants to take a pay cut to play for someone other than the Yankees.
