The price for RG3

According to the Miami Herald, the St. Louis Rams have the second pick and coach Jeff Fisher recently said his team is open to trading the pick to the highest bidder. That pick can be used to select Robert Griffin III. So what would it cost a team for the second pick? A lot. It will take at least two first round picks and probably closer to three first round picks. And it might actually take this years No. 1, next year's No. 1, the 2014 No. 1 and possibly something else like a third or fifth rounder thrown in there.

If that is the price, as a Skins fan, I wouldn't want to do that. That is mortgaging a fair amount for a guy that I like but would not want to bank that much on. We are still rebuilding and I would rather select other players/needs and get a QB with our second pick.

I came across an article today talking about how good friends Shanny and Jeff Fisher may already know what the price of a trade will be. The article says it's two 1sts and a 2nd. It's a steep price to pay, but without a QB you can grow with, we don't have a chance to compete. It's that simple and that's why I think we have to pull the trigger and complete the trade.

RG3 could become a bust, but what he offers is the assurance that the QB position is set for at least the near future. We can then focus on the O-line, secondary, receivers, etc. without questioning whether or not we did all we could to improve the QB position. Don't forget. We are rebuilding. It won't be done in one off-season. If we get the QB this year and focus free agency and the next couple of drafts on improving overall talent, we will be competing for NFC East championships within 2-3 years. It's the only way to have a chance to succeed.

If it is exchanging this year's first round pick and giving up next year's first round pick and an additional pick, I could live with that. If it is three first round picks plus other picks, can't deal with that.

As you said, we are rebuilding. So we can't afford to throw all the eggs in one basket. We will need those picks for other needs. Also, the rebuild can't take an additional three years. That is an eternity in today's NFL. We have to start seeing some results this season. I'm not saying Super Bowl but we have to be at least sniffing the playoffs.

I don't care if Fisher and Shanny are friends. Fisher won't give Shanny any discounts. The Browns will make a play for the second pick and if they offer a lot, that will trump any goodwill towards Shanny.
