For the first time all season, I have the feeling that the Caps will not make the playoffs. I watch most of their games and their play all season has been inconsistent. Last night's game against the Sharks they were able to finally outshoot a team and double their typical number of shots but the quality of shots are not that great. Additionally, they look frustrated and pressed and don't seem to be playing good hockey. They also can't do the simple things right like crowd the net. They make things too easy for the other team.
Missing Backstrom and Green don't help. Green seems to make the machine run and Backstrom helps Ovie out immensely. With no time table on those guys returns, it is looking difficult.
Guys like Hamrlik, Knuble, and Ward look old and out of place. Too many defensive lapses with Schultz and Carlson out there. I do like Wideman and Orlov but things just don't seem to click like in years past.
The trade deadline is less than two weeks away so it will be interesting to see what McPhee tries to pull off.

Trade Carlson, Hamerlik, Ward, Neuvy, Knuble, and a couple other young players. Blow it up and hope that things change.
This team quite frankly stinks. They need much better D, better special teams, and better offense. Their goalie play has been OK but it has been average.
Special teams have been the killer. Poor PK and inconsistent PP.
Knuble is old. Ward looks out of control now. I think he feels pressure for not producing the way he and the team expected and now every time he has the puck he tries to shoot and he tries to hit everything that is moving. He seems like he needs to be more disciplined. Hamrlik is okay. I like Neuvy but he doesn't get enough regular playing time. We could part with him if we could get something of value because I like Holtby as well.
We really need Green back as he is the QB of the team.
Green may or may not help them. The Caps could still easily pull it all together, but there seems to be something really wrong with the locker room. They need some change.
I am just hoping Anaheim continues their run.
Green should be back by the end of this month. That will be huge.
I expect Knuble and/or one of our defenseman (Carlson, Wideman, Hamrlik) to be traded. I also think Holtby or Neuvy will be traded. We need some help.
It could come together but it has to quickly.
I also am cheering for the Ducks. Boudreau is doing to them what he did for the Caps when he first joined our team.
