The Caps must win tonight and take control of this series right from the start. They have to build confidence that they are the best team in the East and the only way they do that is if they win the first two series in 6 games or less.
This team should win. It is built to win and to win now. Some people are worried about which goalie should play or if there will be trouble back there - it won't matter. Both guys are good and can win. The stars have to shine on offense and the Caps have to continue to play the solid D they have played for much of the second half of the year.
Agree that we must win tonight convincingly to set the tone for the series. A loss (particularly a bad loss) and there will be stories tomorrow about how the Caps can't get it done in the playoffs and no doubt those feelings will creep into the players heads. They will deny it in interviews but there is no doubt they will be thinking about it.
The goaltending issue will be big as well. Saw an interview with Neuvy yesterday and he said that he isn't nervous at all. He said that he was excited and he said that the Caps were "way better" than the Rangers. Sure, this could be used as bulletin board material but I loved the confidence. He genuinely looked relaxed and at the same time, excited to get going.
I feel good about this team and I expect, nay, I demand victory tonight!
