Randy Thomas gone to injury

Once again, Randy Thomas suffers a severe triceps injury and will most likely miss much, if not all of the season. This hurts as the O line is a concern to begin with and losing a starter early in the season is not a good sign. Looks like Chad Rinehart will have to grow up real quick as he will probably get the nod at RG next week against the Lions.

There goes the season. Why the Redskins brass didn't get help for their O-line, we'll never know.

But, they pretty much ensured that JC and Zorn won't be back next year.

It's not like Randy Thomas was a perennial All Pro. Sure, I would rather have him in there but it will give opportunities for Rinehart or Montgomery to step up. I'm sure we will try and sign Kendall or Bridges if it ends up Thomas is gone for the year.

I didn't say he was an All Pro, but an already thin and questionable line became even thinner and more questionable.

Last year, the Malcolm Kellies stumbled after their line was disrupted by injuries. They didn't do nearly enough in the off-season to fix their line and now they are sure to end up with the same type of results as last year.

I hope for JC's sake that Rinehart can "step up" better than Malcolm Kelly has "stepped up."

Otherwise JC is going to be "stepping up" off the ground after every passing play.

Rinehart? Kendall? Bridges? (don't even know who Bridges is).

What about Bam Bam or Dickie LaRue?

I'm sure the Skins will bring in someone soon.

When you type in the word, "optimist" in wikipedia, the first picture you see is of JandK's dad!

How do you feel about football when you watch good offenses play and then you see what the Redskins do out there.

Here's a theory: Portis wants to make the Hall of Fame. He won't do that here unless we have a different coaching staff. I bet he asks for trade after this year. Maybe they should trade him now for a good lineman. Decent running backs are a dime a dozen and he's no longer an elite runner, if he ever really was. We should get something for him.

The line play hasn't been bad this season thus far.

Bridges is Jeremy Bridges who was cut at the end of camp.

Scott, sure I am an optimist but I am a realist as well. I'm not saying that we are perfect or that we don't need to improve but the fact is we won. Why are you booing when our team wins? You call yourself a fan? You're no fan. You would rather put up 50 points and lose than put up 9 and win.

Regarding Portis, he is on track for a HOF career. He just turned 28 and is only 650 yards from 10,000 for his career. Barring injury and/or early retirement, it seems likely that he can easily finish his career with b/t 12,000 and 13,000 yards for his career. That puts him in elite company (see the NFL rushing leaders below).

1 Emmitt Smith 18,355
2 Walter Payton 16,726
3 Barry Sanders 15,269
4 Curtis Martin 14,101
5 Jerome Bettis 13,662
6 Eric Dickerson 13,259
7 Tony Dorsett 12,739
8 Jim Brown 12,312
9 Marshall Faulk 12,279
10 Marcus Allen 12,243

Almost every one of these 10 are in the HOF. Those that aren't have not been eligible yet.

Ohhhhhh, Bridges was so good that he got cut from an already poor Redskins team. That'll solve the problem.

Actually, I think getting in touch with the agents for Bam Bam and Dickie LaRue may not be a bad idea.

When Samuels gets hurt - and he will get hurt before the midpoint of the season, then all will be lost. Perhaps a call to Jansen is in order.

The Skins have the same record as the Bears. Despite your claims that the Bears are deserving of being in the same breath as the Colts and Pats, they have done nothing the last couple of years.

The Skins O line has been fine.

Rinehart did fine in the preseason. We'll see what the Skins do. I could give an answer like you and defend whoever they insert and just say I have faith in Zorny and that could be the cure all. In fact, I will say that and be done with it.

BTW - I believe Jansen is on the Lions.

When the Malcolm Kellies lose to Detroit this week, I cannot wait to hear your excuses.

Although I like JC, I don't have faith in Zorny and I think some of the players may start to feel that way after the upcoming loss.

The Skins have the same record as the Eagles and Cowgirls, but they cannot even sniff their jock straps. The only reason the Redskins have a win is because they played the lowly Rams at home after the Rams had to play on the West Coast last week. 9-7? Pathetic.

The Malcolm Kellies are a second rate organization, run by a tyrant idiot who clearly has never played the game but thinks he knows football. By the end of the year the Kellies will be playing at least two guys on their O-line that come off the street (Kendall and a player to be named later).

Then in the off-season, Danny Boy and Vinny will fire Zorn get rid of JC and draft some college hot sh*t, but they won't draft any linemen because linemen don't sell jerseys and you will suffer through another mediocre year.

1 Emmitt Smith 18,355 Won multiple superbowls
2 Walter Payton 16,726 won superbowl
3 Barry Sanders 15,269 Great numbers with a short career
4 Curtis Martin 14,101 won superbowl
5 Jerome Bettis 13,662 won superbowl
6 Eric Dickerson 13,259 played in a superbowl, right?
7 Tony Dorsett 12,739 won superbowl
8 Jim Brown 12,312 great numbers for a short career
9 Marshall Faulk 12,279 won superbowl
10 Marcus Allen 12,243 won superbowl

Hum, do you see a pattern here? Portis will not be voted in.

Scott said...

Oh yeah, John Riggins, won a superbowl and played in another.

I think Portis will get in if he hits 12,000 yards - no question about that. However, he won't be regarded the same without a ring.

The thing I find interesting about Portis is that he doesn't seem to be demanding the ball. I don't know if that is good or bad, it is just different than years past.

Look. Thomas is out. He's been out for much of the last two years. He's fragile and has had to be replaced more than once. Will Montgomery stepped in and did a fine job yesterday. Reinhart might come in and start. Either way, we'll be fine. Thomas has been very good through his career, but he's a shell of himself now and anyone could come in and do at least as well as he was.

Regarding Portis...As JKD pointed out, he's only 28. He could get another 5000 yards before he's done. If he gets 2500, he's in the mix of the best RBs of all time. His durability is unquestionable as is his toughness. He's struggling now, as is the entire offense, but it will get better when either Zorn figures it out or when Shanahan comes in. Either way, he'll be in the discussion of potential HOF'ers.

Funny, Zorn quoted Danny Smith yesterday regarding something like paying attention to detail.

Actually, I think Portis will have a big game vs. the Lionesses. I worry about D-Hall though. However, I think Blache is smarted enough to confuse Stafford. The Skins really should roll this week. Zorney better be on his game. I'm borrowing this from someone else, but perhaps Zorney should have a PSP on his arm and ask Maddon for play suggestions on 3rd and goal. I thought that was funny.

The Lions are going to end their dismal losing streak this week. They have played better the first two weeks of the season and are showing some life.

At home, against the offensively weak Malcolm Kellies, is a good matchup for them.

Calvin Johnson and Jonathan Stewart can play. Stafford is inconsistent but has talent. The problem for the Lions has been turnovers, but the Deadskins are not a team that makes many big plays that lead to turnovers.

Shanahan is on the way!
