Favre -- Should he stay or should he go?

What a predicament. Quite the Catch 22. If the Packers don't bring him back, they are turning away one of the all time great players in the NFL. They will annoy a lot of their fan base. They will come across as a cold organization.

However, if they do bring him back, they have to tell projected QB, Aaron Rodgers, to take a seat again after an entire off season of physically and mentally preparing to be the starter. They will have to change the offensive game plan as it was being worked to suit Rodgers. They will be an accomplice in toying with the Packers fans who have already probably emotionally separated themselves from Favre to some degree.

It is a tough predicament and not the kind of thing you want to be dealing with as you are coming off of a great season going into this year.

I don't really like that Favre put this kind of pressure on his former team. I can understand that after coming off of one of his best season's and retiring, he might get the itch back to play but he should have thought about that before. If he wasn't committed to retiring before, he shouldn't have made his decision so quickly after the season. I understand that you don't want to hold the team hostage as he did last offseason but he should've taken some time to think about it. Again, he has put the organization in a very awkward position. Frankly, I think he should just stay retired but how do you say that to a perennial Pro Bowler, a multi winning NFL MVP, and a guy that has been the face of the franchise for so many years? It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Either way, they will annoy some of their fans.

GO!!!!!

Selfish bastard needs to retire already. I don't like the Pack, but what he is doing to them is terrible.

If he wants to come back then stop retiring every year - it is stupid and it hurts the team.

Yeah, I don't like was Favre has done to his team/organization. He has put them in a pretty bad spot. I had heard recently that he had contacted the Packers a few months ago about coming out of retirement and the Packers were going to oblige but two days before they were to make the public announcement Favre changed his mind again. If that is true, he is an even bigger jerk. It's such a soap opera with him. The sad part is it really put a TON of pressure on Rodgers. If he doesn't play well, there will be all kinds of heat on him (as well as McCarthy, the GM, and the rest of the organization). There will be even more heat if Favre does decide to come back as the backup. Can you imagine being Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre is the backup QB? You have the face of the Packers, a first ballot Hall of Famer, and a living legend who came off one of his best season's ever last year as the backup.

The interesting thing is the fans seem tired of the soap opera. In an unscientific poll on the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Web site, 47.2 percent of fans said they wanted Favre to play for the Packers next season and 46.5 percent said he should "retire already." Only 6.3 percent of the 17,000-plus fans who voted in the poll as of Sunday afternoon wanted to see Favre play for another team.

Another interesting thing would be if Favre did come back, he would have to report to training camp on 7/28. My guess is Brett doesn't want to participate in training camp. He basically wants to be given the starting QB job and show up a week before the season starts and do his thing. As you mentioned, he is a "selfish bastard."
