So in a change of pace, I had an issue with movie endings. I was watching Shutter Island the other night on tv and for those that have seen it, I thought it was a decent movie but the ending kind of leaves it up to the viewer for interpretation. Anyone that has seen it, I'd be curious as to your understanding of it. I have my own understanding but won't share yet in case you haven't seen it and want to see it.
Still, there are other movies that I enjoyed but the ending is a bit confusing. Namely The Dark Knight Rises and Inception. Both good movies but the endings are not clear. My preference would be an ending that is more definitive just so I don't leave the movie guessing.
Anyway, just something that I wanted to throw out there.

Surgery for RG3
RG3 will undergo total reconstructive surgery of his right knee early Wednesday morning to repair torn anterior cruciate and lateral collateral ligaments, but he is expected to be ready for the opener of the 2013 NFL regular season, according to team sources familiar with the determination made by orthopedic specialist Dr. James Andrews.
Griffin's recovery is projected at six to eight months, barring any setbacks, sources said. The rehabilitation plan will focus primarily on strengthening Griffin's quadriceps to help protect and help stabilize the knee, according to sources. The reconstruction of the LCL is considered a complication, but sources said Andrews informed the Redskins it should rehab well during the same six-to-eight month time frame as the ACL injury.
Under this projected time frame of surgery, recovery and rehab, Griffin should be able to participate at some level during training camp in August and be ready to open the season in September, according to the sources.
Griffin thanked his fans for their support in a tweet Wednesday morning. "Thank you for your prayers and support. I love God, my family, my team, the fans, & I love this game. See you guys next season," he wrote.
I suppose it is good and bad news. Obviously, it sucks that he needs the surgery but if the time table is accurate, it will be good to have him even for a portion of next season. I don't doubt the kid will work hard and do whatever he can to get back on the field and play the game he loves.
Deepie posted in another section that it's obvious now that Shanny made a mistake. I've said several times now that hindsight is 20/20. However, RG3 was cleared by doctors. He played the previous two games in a similar state. Shanny made the call based on conversations with doctors, trainers, RG3 determining how RG3 practiced in the week and he did what he did. Again, I'm sure he would love to have a do over. Unfortunately you can't. No one said anything about Shanny playing RG3 in the Eagles and Cowboys games. He has been/will take heat for this. I don't doubt that he has learned from this. I also don't doubt that he intended to put RG3's career in jeopardy for this one game. It was a mistake but it's understandable how he arrived to his decision. If he had kept him in there and called a bunch of designed runs, that would be inexcusable but that wasn't the case. The injury occurred on a botched snap and the field conditions sucked. It was a freak play. It's a shame but we are where we are and what's done is done and we can only move forward. Hopefully RG3 will recover fully without any set backs and he'll be back next season.

BS Title Game
It isn't the BCS game. It's the BS game. It was obvious that Notre Dame was overmatched from the get go. Alabama dominated this laugher and it only further proves that there needs to be a playoff scenario in college football. I know they are moving to a four team playoff scenario in the next couple of years but really it should be the top eight teams.
There are too many good teams at the top that are deserving of a chance to compete for the championship. Teams like Oregon, Ohio State, Georgia who came within a couple of yards of competing for the national championship, Texas A&M who came on strong down the stretch were all deserving of competing for the championship.
Many teams have a bad week during the season and that bad week should not take them out of the hunt. Also, some teams steadily improve as the season goes on (Texas A&M) and while they started slow, by the end of the season, they may be one of the strongest teams in the country.
Additionally, I think it is ridiculous that the title game is played a month after the regular season finale. I don't care how much practice or scrimmaging a team does, it does not replace real game situation and to go that long without playing a game you are not the same team after that long a break.
Notre Dame is a decent team and under the current rules probably deserved to play in the game but they are not one of the top teams in the country and there are better teams that could have put up a better fight for the championship.

RG3's knee
The entire city is holding it's collective breath as we await more definitive answers on RG3's knee. Reports are that he suffered a partially torn lateral collateral ligament in his right knee, a source told ESPN's Brett McMurphy. Griffin also likely tore at least part of his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), but it's unknown how severe it is because a previous knee injury he suffered at Baylor in 2009 required two screws and a rubber band to hold it together.
Because of the previous injury, doctors initially could not determine Monday if his ACL was partially or completely torn and doctors don't know what surgery should be performed.
RG3 is headed down to FL this morning to meet with Dr. James Andrews and to get a higher resolution MRI done on the knee. It should better determine whether the tears he suffered are new or if what is showing up is from his injury in 2009. We can only hope for the best and prepare for the worst. The thing is there is no difference between a fully torn and a significant partial tear in the ACL as the ligament is fully replaced in either situation. My guess is that this is going to be a replacement surgery as doctors, trainers, coaches will all want the knee fixed so he can come back healthy as opposed to going with therapy and have this be a lingering issue and not have RG3 play the way he is capable of playing (think of LaRon Landry's situation).

NHL returns
The NHL and NHLPA agreed on a tentative CBA on Sunday morning. They still have to dot the "i's" and cross the "t's" but for all intents and purposes, it looks as though hockey will be returning in the next week or two.
Given that the Redskins season is over, glad to have Caps hockey back.

Redskins fall to the Hawks
Tough game but a great season. As I've said for several weeks, the season has far exceeded my expectations. Of course we wanted the dream to continue but I still felt (even deep into the season) that we are a year away from being real contenders. Still, a great step forward and gives Skins fans something to be proud of and something to look forward to in the future.
The real concern is the injury RG3 suffered. My guess right now is that it is serious and may very well end up being his ACL. Given that he had an MRI done last night and nothing has been released and RG3's comments after the game plus James Andrews being right there to diagnose, my guess this is going to be an ACL injury. It's terrible and one of the big questions will be whether RG3 should have been in there or not. It's something that is compounded by the injury he suffered. Here are my thoughts on the game and RG3:
First the game. Obviously, it was a tale of pre injury and post injury. In the first quarter, the Skins moved the ball at will. However, the injury took place later in the first quarter, deep in Seattle territory when RG3 rolled to his right and threw on the run. He clearly aggravated the knee as he fell out of bounds. He was slow to get up and was gimpy the rest of the game. He ended up throwing a TD on the next play but it was clear he wasn't the same.
Defense was solid most of the game and I'm proud of how Haslett and the defense improved over the last third of the season. Just better schemes and more of what I expected a highly paid coordinator to do. I said for many weeks that early in the season I was more disappointed with the scheme and the defensive coaching than the players. So it was good to see him make the necessary changes that suited the personnel and allowed them to be in better positions to be successful. Again, can't complain much with the defensive effort given yesterday.
I was disappointed that Morris didn't get the ball much particularly in the second half. He only had five carries in the second half and 16 carries over all. Morris was successful running the ball and I totally understand that the Skins probably wanted to keep the Seattle defense off balance by doing play action hoping for bigger plays. However, Morris has been our bread and butter and I get that his success is limited without a healthy RG3 being a threat to run but still I would have wanted to see more of him and have Seattle prove that they could stop him.
Now to RG3. Shanny admitted that he wasn't sure what to do as far as pulling RG3. I believe it. In fact, it is a no win situation. RG3 has been playing hurt the last few weeks and there was no reason to believe he shouldn't/couldn't play yesterday. Even when he aggravated his knee on the play mentioned above, it's hard to take him out. Sure, hindsight is 20/20 but there was no guarantee Cousins would come in and light it up. In fact, if Cousins had come in and not played well, all the fans/media would have said why did he take out RG3? Obviously, the way things played out, those same fans that would have complained about taking out RG3 are the same fans/media that will complain about why they kept RG3 in there. It's the nature of fans/media. If RG3 had played okay and the Skins won, there would be no questions. Still, that is the nature of fans/media and we should probably all recognize that now.
I will say that the field conditions sucked and have sucked all year. Will be interesting to see what Danny boy does about it in the offseason. Also, I don't think the previous injury played a part in injury RG3 suffered yesterday. Obviously, the knee bent awkwardly and he crumpled immediately. Still, the two injuries seem independent of one another.
Also, as far as keeping him in there, again, I'm sure it is something Shanny will question especially if RG3 is more seriously hurt. However, I'm sure most everyone on the team expected RG3 to play and were more willing to ride with him than go to Cousins. RG3 himself said that he expected to play and would have been "highly upset" if Shanny had pulled him. I get that this is the playoffs and no player wants to come out and sometimes it is incumbent on coaches to protect players from themselves and I also know that RG3 can be overly convincing but still unless the doctors told me otherwise, last night I wanted to ride with RG3. However, in thinking about it a bit more last night and this morning, I would have wanted to study RG3's throwing mechanics during the game. Clearly, he wasn't going to be able to run the ball. I do believe he is an accurate passer and can win with his arm as well. However, he was off on his passes yesterday. Passes that he typically makes. I would have liked to have monitored and studied in the game how well he was able to plant that right foot. Seems like he was having difficulty planting and throwing and thus resulting in his inaccuracy. If that was the case, he should have been pulled.
It's easy now to say would've/could've/should've. What's done is done. They have the results of the MRI. We await the news. Nothing we can do now. Season is over. It was a success. All we can do is take this and learn from it use it as we prepare for next season.

RG3 Sound FX
http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-films-sound-efx/0ap2000000120997/Sound-FX-Robert-Griffin-III
If you haven't seen the NFL films Sound FX of RG3 from last Sunday's game against the Cowboys it's worth a look/listen. Does a great job of showing his leadership qualities and also his sportsmanship at the end in his words to Romo as they walk off the field. Just more reason to like this kid.
